How Fulham is perceived

    ESPN's Roger Bennet teamed up with Brand Tags to conduct an experiment...basically looking for knee-jerk reactions to the different Premier League clubs (his column explaining it all is here: http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/relegationzone/id/1365?cc=5901)

    Among my favorite terms to show up prominently: old, poor, quaint, simple, small, who?, and my personal favorite, meh.

    Take a look; yes there are some more positive terms in there too.

    My eyes got drawn to a lot of "America", "Americans" and "Dempsey"'s... then again, I think that was actual Fulham fan backlash against all the negative terms. I like how we still have such a great association with American soccer even though we haven't had an American player on the first team in over a year. At a Ft. Lauderdale Strikers match, I had an English ex-pat from Newcastle actually laugh at my Fulham shirt, he was actually a nice guy just having a laugh- but he respected it more when I mentioned I had studied abroad in West London and at that point McBride and Bocanegra were fixtures of the starting 11.

    Yeah, it can be annoying at times to wear Fulham shirts around town and get scoffed at by those who actually know who Fulham are--that's about the only time I wish Fulham were a "bigger" side. But, than again, I scoff and frown when I see Barca and Real Madrid shirts by kids who couldn't even point to Spain on a map. If they were to tell me the lived in the areas of where the team play, I would find that much more respectable. I guess the scoffing goes both ways with "big" vs. "small."

    Should have told him putting on a hundred pounds and going shirtless didn't appeal to you, so that ruled out supporting the Toon.
