NBC has been airing all of the late Saturday matches so far this year. Since I do not have the NBCSports network, I was excited to see that the Fulham/Chelsea match was scheduled as the late match this weekend. But.... NBC is not airing the match, NBCSports is.

Such a let down. I guess I'll be hunched over my laptop again, straining to watch some jittery low-def stream.

All in all, matches should be easier to watch now than they ever have been. Sadly, of course, that's not necessarily the case. For their part, NBC is doing a good job, at least making the matches available. It's just matter of the cable MSOs actually offering the channels in the right tiers and, for me, picking up the Extra Time channels or at least offering access to the high-quality streams on Live Extra. One step forward, another big one to go. But we're hopefully moving in the right direction.

EDIT: Looks like NBC has golf this Saturday in place of the late match. Hopefully, at this time of year, that's a one-off and won't be a regular occurrence. Bummer that it would happen the week that Fulham's scheduled in the late match.

I notice that one of the weekend matches is being carried on CNBC. That surprised me a bit.

Lax, you need to talk to your local TWC provider. They [The Parent Company] signed their contract with NBC well before the season started. We've had it here in little old San Antonio since opening day.

I much prefer FOX's coverage over NBC so far. I liked their pre and post game coverage better and their commentators too. The English lady with the accent is annoying. Her style of commentating is to emphasize every third or fourth word; drives me crazy. While I prefer to watch Fulham live, I enjoyed the days of FOX when games were on tape-delay and certain games replayed throughout the week. I'm not going to bother to DVR all the non-fulham games but I would like to catch a bit of them. It's the same as why I didnt like NBC Olympic coverage. They tried to do everything live - well what if two or possibly three things you wanted to watch were on at the same time and you didnt realize until it was too late.

There are two things that I like about the NBC coverage:

    1. the video quality is vastly superior
    2. Arlo White and his sidekick are far superior to Ian "I think United would consider 3 points a good day" Darke and Macca.

    Two things I don't like:

    1. I enjoyed being able to DVR a half-dozen matches every weekend and watch them at my leisure. Because everything has to be broadcast "live" I don't have that capability. So now I'm dwon to 2-3 matches a weekend rather than 5-6.
    2. When you're watching the featured match at 0900 Central, NBCSN feels it necessary to keep you updated on all the scores. I'm in the situation I was in with ESPN. The match that I watch LAST is the featured match.

Yeah, loved the FOX guys sitting around in the fake bar plastered in Budweiser memorobilia!

I am happy that NBC is typically showing one match a week, whereas FOX would only show one a month maybe (and it was almost always Man U versus another top five team).

I agree with those posters who consider NBC to be superior to ESPN, but inferior to Fox. But the good news is that, as of last Monday, the NBC Sports website has begun showing replays of all games on demand. So, if you miss any game, you can now catch it on the web. A significant improvement.
