a three-year contract at English-born wages for a guy who -- last season -- was a 60 minute player and only managed about half their league matches.

The three years is the part I can't wrap my head around. Any chance there are club options incuded in those years?

He is a good player that will definitely help us out. However, I agree with rest of you about the negatives. Given the way the club has treated our older players' contracts in the past, I dont get the three year deal and high wages if the latter is indeed the case. Especially considering that his engine is one of his biggest qualities as a player, whereas my avatar's was his sublime distribution, finesse, and vision. I imagine the long term deal was the only way we could get him so good for him. He's got to look out for his family - assuming he has one.

    Welcome and good luck.

It appears to me that one of our midfielders is going to be Parkagounis.

It sounds like a very old, Greek sedan that has been discontinued.

Seriously? I've been a countryside hermit lately and had no idea this was even in the works.

At least he may bump Karagounis' spot in the squad - so we got that goin' for us, which is nice.

I hope he benefits from the Fulham "Murphy Effect."

Was not excited either when Danny originally signed so hope I'm equally wrong as back then and Nev's aptly named 'Murphy Effect" comes into play in terms of play and leadership.

From what I saw of Parker last year, he's dropped off quite a bit since leaving West Ham. I've read he had a nagging hamstring injury and has since had surgery. If that's the case, he's fully healed and we get a player that more resembles the one from 2011, then he's an upgrade over Boateng or Sidwell. Worst case, he likely keeps the Greek Tragedy on the bench (or in the stands) which is huge plus in my book. Of course the flip side is he continues to not be the same player and is now very injury prone, ala Richardson. Hamstrings tend to become chronic, esp in older players. In that case, I don't see him improving the squad one bit.

Parker isn't a creative passer, but he is an engine type player. We need more guys who provide movement, so I'm optimistic that he'll bring that to cm and hopefully encourage the same from teammates. That's probably best case scenario, but that would help us quite a bit.

I'm assuming with this move we're rounding out our depth at cm and there are no more cm moves on the cards. If that's the case, it's a gamble, and the length of the deal makes little sense, but it's better than doing nothing. Disappointing if we've once again failed to properly fill a glaring need.

Greek car that upon contact in a minor fender bender, the engine erupts into flame. Once the fire truck shows up, it self-extinguishes and the engine cranks right back up.

Everything I found indicates Parker's injury was to his right achilles tendon which was surgiacally repaired in 2012. It seems he suffered lingering pain after the surgery and the recovery was slow.

Let's be honest. We have to take chances on potential injury prone guys like this, due to the monetary limitations of our little club, in hopes that it will work out. I hope it works out. What are the odds it will? Hopefully better than Richardson's, and others,
did. While we're at it, who's gonna get Deuce on loan when the MLS season ends? I know it won't be us if Jol's still around, but if he should, say, get sacked between now and then.....

Jump, Tottenham wouldn't surprise me at all, especially if they have injuries or some of the new signings are struggling to find the back of the net. There were many indicators that AVB and staff liked him, he was just on the wrong side age-wise and the board wanted younger players to go forward. Everton would have been my next bet if Moyes were still there. May still be since Martinez has quite a few US connections.

There were rumors that we were in for him before Seattle came in with their bid, so never say never. Don't think Jol was as big an issue there as we initially thought. Later comments suggest that the conflict was with the board and/or MAF. Many of them are no longer with the club.
