Louis Saha announces retirement

Louis Saha has retired from professional football on his 35th birthday.

Former France international Saha is most commonly associated with a long Premier League career which took in spells at Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester United, Everton, Spurs and Sunderland.

After ending the 2012-2013 campaign with Lazio, Saha announced his decision via his official Twitter account.

Saha began his career in Ligue 1 with Metz in 1997, before moving to Newcastle on-loan for the second half of the 1998-99 season.

In the summer of 2000 he completed a permanent move to Fulham, where he scored 64 goals in 144 games.

That rich vein of form earned him a £12.8 million move to Manchester United in January 2004. Saha scored 42 goals in 124 appearances as a United player.

After four and a half years at Old Trafford, Saha then joined Everton, where he scored 35 goals in 115 games, before moving on again to Spurs in January last year, followed by brief spells with Sunderland and Lazio at the end of last season.

Saha also made 20 appearances for France, scoring four goals.
