Every practice we would have a scrimmage, and the kids had to come up with a name for their team. The sillier the better, and it can't have been used before. So, for example, we'd have the Ferocious Hamsters against the Lego Monsters. As the ref, I had to use the team names in calling the game. The list of scrimmage team names was the highlight of the end-of-season banquet.

We did the name thing last practice. We ended up with the Roaring Tigers vs. The Bellyache's. The kids loved it.

In case any of you were curious, the first game went fantastic. 11 out of 12 kids tried their best (1 kid wanted no part of the field). We got the win and most kids are very eager to practice on Monday. Great day.

The boys finished up their season this afternoon. They were the powerhouse of the Judge Dowd kindergarten soccer league. Officially no wins or losses, but truth be told no one ever really gave them a game. The majority of the kids really improved as the season went on. Overall a lot of fun

Now we are trying to recruit enough kids to play indoor.

Well the boys kicked off their 1st grade season this week and thumped their opponent. So at least I got to see one team I support play today. We lost two from last year's team. So we got 10 boys for our 7 on 7 league.

The 3rd grade soccer team kicks off on Saturday. We remain undefeated all time. We lost one of the better kids to club soccer but added a home schooler. It'll be extremely tough to keep our undefeated streak going another year. Wish us luck.

@stlouisbrad hope the kids have a great season. We have a crazy heatwave that started a couple days ago, hopefully it hasn’t reached you yet.

I coached my daughter's rec level team for 5 years when she was in elementary school. I came up with an idea that was very popular with the kids. Every practice we would have a scrimmage at the end. I'd divide the girls into 2 teams and they had to come up with a name for their team. It can't be one that was used before, and, silly names encouraged. So one practice we had the Mighty Guinea Pigs against the Wild Girls; another time we had the Burglar Raccoons against the Pumpkin Eaters. As the referee, I had to use the team names when calling the game. One time, just to be mean, they named their team supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. The highlight of the banquet at the end of the year was reading off the list of scrimmage team names. A really fun thing for rec level elementary school kids.
