I know that English supporters have a certain reputation, but the negative news regarding recent pitch invasions is pretty disheartening. Also, Everton supporters should be embarrassed - twice invading the pitch after securing safety?!? Their season was inglorious. Quietly breathe a sigh of relief and move on. Stop acting like you just won the trophy.

Here's some news from just the last few days.

Nottingham Forest fan jailed for charging and headbutting Sheffield United captain after the Championship Playoff Semifinal.

Port Vale supporters surround Swindon Town players after the League Two Playoff Semifinal.

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira fights back.

Thankfully most pitch invasions have not turned out like this.

If they want plexiglass, chain link, wrought iron, rebar or livestock fencing installed in their grounds, like many countries around the world already have, then by all means, keep going for it. But this is how that happens.
It doesn't help that the recent pitch invasions at Craven Cottage have, seemingly, been relatively tame and genteel, in keeping with our reputation. But if the authorities and clubs can't get a handle on it, fences or other styles of barriers between the stands and the pitch are what's next. And with memories of Hillsborough still very much in the fronts of many English supporters' minds, that would quash any talk of bringing back standing areas and terraces. Being able to say we don't misbehave like they do at other stadia ain't gonna cut it.
