This should count as a win in this season.

Let's be honest. In a match that counted for zippo (unless you were one of the 10,000 paying customers) they dominated us but couldn't put us away despite multiple chances. It took a world class strike by a world class striker to get the one they got. I don't know if Areola should have done better, but Cavani is still a darn good option up front at 34. We hung on by our fingernails and managed a brief spurt of quality to score. Areola is a darn good keeper. He's kept us from being embarrassed a lot this season. If PSG are keen on keeping 34 year old Keylor Navas as their No. 1 for the foreseeable future (and why wouldn't they?), they should cut the 28 year old Areola loose instead of loaning him out for a sixth straight year next season. He's a number one for somebody in my book.

Highlights from a generally enjoyable match to watch given the circumstances:

When I made my prediction of a draw, I was thinking what would be the most ridiculous, head-scratching, yet anti-climactic finish we could see from Fulham. And there we have it.

Fulham drove me nuts in this game with their continued efforts to play up from the back. It never led to a goal, but there were a number of sloppy passes that put them into danger. I just don't get committing to that approach. On the plus side, there was a lot of good strong tackling from Fulham in this match that undid a number of challenges from Manchester United.

What made this match for me was watching Joe Bryan. He had a number of good runs, especially in the second half, and then found himself in acres of space to get a free header. Because as Joe Bryan himself has said, no one expects him to score. It was a good reward for getting his nose badly bloodied in the first half.

Tim Ream didn't look too shabby in this match and certainly took this small window of opportunity to make the case for staying with Fulham. Carvalho also looked good although he really should have put away the chance he had (and what a great through ball from Lookman).

The most concerning thing may have been Mitrovic's absence from the squad. Seems like a sign of tension that can't be good for Fulham. Meanwhile, the play on the field from the guys who are likely to make the squad next season was enough to provide some hope for the future.

I avoided the score and tried to muster up the courage to watch it this evening. Boy, am I glad I did. That was actually enjoyable to watch. Nice to see strong games from Ream and Bryan.
