Now there's lots of TV commercials out there that are designed to irritate you -- personal injury lawyers kind of depend on it. I think the idea is that the more irritating they are the more likely they'll bully opposing lawyers. Others are irritating bcause the products they pitch are uncomfortable for general audiences.

But, there are others that fit into neither category but still manage to irritate the expletive out of me. First and foremost is Chevy Cars and Trucks. For the better part of a year they've featured "real people, not actors." [aside: I know a LOT of actors. All of them are real people -- even musical actors]. Chevy ads take these "real people" and get them to guess who made the car/truck that leads the league in whatever. The "real people" are dumb -- not unusual -- the one that most irritated me was a woman who when told that Chevy had won an award for three straight years responded, "I'm so proud." Why? Proud of whom?

The commercials also feature pat "surprise endings" one of which was wonderfully parodied by Jamie in a Progressive Insurance commercial.

Anyhow, that's my mega irritating "mainstream" commercial. What's yours? Yes, this is a football site, but it'll take your mind off this seriously irritating season.

Easy answer. Any of the ‘wonder’ drug ads that help with anything from curing the shingles to high blood pressure....with the ‘possible side effects’ of stroke, blindness, irritable rash, and my favorite ‘death’

"Say Doc, I've been to regions where there are certain fungal infections."

    "Well, that's very helpful information.

Can those dumb Bud Light ads go away now?

First it was the dumb 'dilly dilly' catchphrase, now they've entered into anti-intellectual bro-conservative territory. For example: the other castle(?) that is the brunt of their jokes are clearly French Renaissance/Enlightenment era mead drinkers; compared to the tough Medieval king who drinks beer.

I feel like those ad wizards a step away from adding “and twins!” to this godforsaken campaign.

Don, I guess I owe you some kind of thanks since I've never had the sound on for the truck commercials (notice how I didn't repeat the sponsor name). "Real people not actors" I usually interpret as meaning "why don't you check and see how the other game is going".

The Bud Light commercials have been at the top of my list for a long time, continuing their theme of "The Beer for Morons".

next up: Spectrum commercial with Ellen Degeneris voice over. There's this guy on a bicycle delivering a pizza on a pier to two women sitting it a kayak. How the tell are these two women going to share that pizza in that kayak?

    Sigh

Man. we need to start winning some games. But mine was (thankfully it has passed) was the Jennie-O give your family the bird campaign. We stream and don't have cable, so every commercial break this was on. Some of the Geico's are starting to get to me as well. Specifically the paper mache.
