We're 100 days out from the start of the big show, and the English scribes are beginning to write about the prospect of #3 being on the plane for the Three Lions. For me, it's a no brainer. It would be a crime if he's not named by Mr. Southgate. Who have they got that's better at that position? Yes, he's young, but there's that age old argument about getting experience for at least one, if not two, talented youngsters for future World Cups. But the reverse argument is, can you afford to spend one precious spot of a 23 man roster on a 17 year old? Except, as we all have witnessed, this ain't your average 17 year old. Best I can tell, Marcus Rashford is the leading contender to start at what would be Ryan's current position on the left wing. Aside from the fact that he starts for ManUre, what's he got on Sess? A little more experience, just because he's 3 years older, but that's about it. I don't know who else he'd have to beat out for a spot on the plane to Russia but, right now, he really should be in. I mean, who else do England have that's clearly better than him?

I think you might have been wearing blinders when you typed that Jump because without thinking to hard I can come up with Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana. Granted Lallana has been injured but he’s due back for Liverpool soon I believe and there is no way Sess is as good as Sterling today.

I was relieved when I learned this post was about the World Cup and not a possible transfer to CSKA Moscow or Zenit St. Pete.

I respectfully disagree with the right honourable gentleman from Warrick.

At this point, Lallana would be a risky pick.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/ap...l-midfielder-Lallana-come-short-WCup-bid.html He became a first team regular with Southampton, then in the Championship, at 20.
    He's 29 now.

Sterling? He's as good, but, like Lallana, also seems injury prone. That's led to some inconsistency. He's been a starter since he was 18 at Liverpool. Seems like he should be older, but he's only 23.

Doesn't mean either won't be named by Southgate. They probably will. But I think Ryan's as good as they are right now. And they need to think about future World Cups, since their "golden generation" didn't pan out quite like they had hoped. Sess is the kind of talent that can get them over the hump.
It would behoove them to get him acclimated to the FIFA zoo now. If he stays fit, he could end up going to five World Cups for Anglaterra.

Are you saying that 29 is too old?

I'd argue that the article you linked gives 3-4 (based on health) better options.

I'd also argue that you have to remember that the Championship is a second tier league. While Fulham is currently tearing it up in the Championship, the squad (including Sess) would certainly not be as good in the top tier of a number of European leagues.

Sess has had a great year but Sterling’s has been better in a better league. Sterling has been one of the best players on Citeh’s roster this season and that is a large statement. Playing for Pep has been a boon to Sterling’s career. He sits 4th in the Premier in scoring with 15 goals and has 6 assists as well. He has an additional 4 goals in 6 Champions League appearances and those are just stats. The eye test, for me, shows he is now an impact player where potential has come to reality this season.
