Gonzalez and Besler, especially Omar, were great in the back tonight.

Guzan is not a #2 goalkeeper. He is basically a #1b now.

Coughed up too much possession at times, but got the job done tonight.

I have no problem with Guzan being the number one keeper from here on out. Love Timmy and all he has done and wouldn't have a problem with in net either, but someone is on the downslope and one is going up.

Don't have much to say about the game other than it was a great result and couldn't have really hoped for much more than that. Plus, I fell asleep through most of it and have to rely on highlights from various sources. Hope the guys have worked things out behind the scenes, maybe they have:

I was very impressed with Gonzalez and disappointed in Herc. As for Guzan being #1, over the course of the Premier League season he's been better than Timmy. Brad needs a good run.

Props to JK for his subs. We're "trying to hold on for a point" and all three of his subs were attackers. That must have confounded the crap out of Mexico' brain trust.

Also, it was good to see that Salcido has succeeded in his Danny Murphy role. He played like that in the Olympics and has continued. He could easily have had 2 or 3 assists last night but for profligate finishing and some excellent defense.

Finally, have I mentioned that I can't stand Ian Darke?

Welcome to the site Andersons11, and thank you for your service, and hope you post regularly. Yes, Bradley is turning into a rock in the middle.

Si AggieMatteo, someone had to represent, but even I had to admit that it was a stonewall penalty against Edu. To be fair to the 12-15 El Tri fans they only complained about that when it happened, and were more disturbed about their team's inability in the final third. We all expected Guzan to have to stand on his head, but he didn't have to do as near as much, and that was because of the stellar play of the back 4.

Omar and Besler: Only 90 minutes, but those two look like they really compliment each other, very Brede/Hughes Thames Barrier-ish in terms of what each brings to the table.

Beas: not pretty at times, but a damn commendable performance in both games.

Agree w/Lax about Guzan, still behind Timmy, but got total faith in him. He is so fit right now, that when an opposing player runs into him, they end up wondering what truck hit them (ask the El Tri player).

The one point of criticism I have in the first half, Mexico was inviting us to go down the flank, and there were at least four times where Gomez decided to back pass instead of using his speed and trying to whip in a cross. Hercules ran his socks off and tracked back like a hero all night, but wished he attacked when give the ample opportunities in the opening 45.

All in all the second ever point in Azteca is something to  My reaction right after the match was a big loud "WE'LL TAKE IT"

As for my El Tri fans they are wondering how much longer Chepo will be in charge, and have special venom reserved for Carlos Vela who refused the invitation to join the team.

Credit to my Mexican carpenters today when I rolled up on my jobsite to check on them, they were lamenting the lack of finishing by El Tri, and let me bring up the obvious penalty...Like I shared with Matt by text last night, "Thank The Good Lord for that ref". We'll take the 4 points and run!
