Don, it's not uncommon for the guide to be wrong. I've found errors on it several times this week on the sports channels so it seems to be a trend this week. Hopefully it's wrong one more time & we'll be on tv Sunday.

Good to get the three points today, but we may not have deserved even one. This game did nothing to give me confidence in Kit. We looked disorganized when not in possession, and don't look confident playing with a lead at all. That being said, I'm willing to give Kit time to figure it out. We have a lot of new players that need time to gel.

On and individual level, I thought Dembele looked more comfortable. He continues to improve with every game. However, I didn't think our central midfielders defended well. Tunnicliffe especially seemed to struggle to track runner from midfield.

Next weekend at Wednesday will be a real test for us. I just hope a week on the training ground will be what the doctor ordered.

I was actually pretty upbeat about everything. You can only play as well as your opponents allow you to, and Rovers are a very good physical side. I do, however, expect a lot of disagreement with my View -- and how nice it is to actually get to write one!

All I care about at this juncture is points. And that's three bloody points. Results are all that matter, and this is a result. By hook or crook, that's all that matters. It's a new season.

The full 90 minutes (I think I'll just watch the first half twice)

Let's start with the obvious. They say you make your own luck & we've had precious little of it the last 4 years. We were long overdue for a break like that goal line clearance.

First half was great with lots of nice one touch, quick passing, changing the point of attack & good movement and we carved their midfield to shreds. Stearman looked dominant at the back, Ross played well forward and we were deserving of our 2-0 ht lead.

Second half looked like same old Fulham, unfortunately. Blackburn clogged the midfield & amped up the physical play, as you should against a team that is beating you with pretty football. We fell into old habits of hoofing up long balls (which isn't our strength) and dallying on the ball with little forward movement, resulting in sideways & backward passes and slow attacks. We also relaxed our defensive pressure (which is fine up 2-0) but we failed once again to shut down passing lanes & didn't seem to have a plan for where we wanted to force their attack. If you're going to lay back, you can't concede the middle of the pitch & we did too often.

My continued beef with Kit is his use of subs, or lack thereof. Blackburn isn't the first team to make a 2nd half adjustment to change the game on us. But Kit never seems to have an answer. The 1st sub was a good one actually. Pringle got into good positions but was wasteful with the ball and didn't offer a lot in defense. Meanwhile Conway was causing us problems on our right. Frederick helped contain Conway, added some very useful pace going forward & allowed us to get a player off who wasn't positively impacting the match. But then he holds his 2nd sub until the 89th minute & walks off the pitch with the 3rd in his pocket. If we weren't struggling, fine. But we were.

There's nothing wrong with playing over the top of a congested midfield, if you have the personnel. Ross had disappeared & Woodrow is our best player at trying to win aerial balls & hold it up. That would have been a useful sub. Or, he could have gone the other way & fortified the d. I like Tunni's effort, but question how judiciously he uses it. He chased too many lost causes & failed to stay with his man on the back end consistently. Subbing in fresh legs with Mattila or LVC would have benefitted us. Either of these subs would have been a good 2nd sub and likely would have relieved pressure on one end.

The second sub was also good, except it should have been our 3rd. Putting another ball winner in the box was smart & Husband had lost quite a bit of effectiveness. My only complaint is why he waited so long to do it. The need was there well before the 89th minute.

So, as Don said in his View (welcome back to that, btw), it was a mixed bag. There were things to give optimism, but unfortunately there are still plenty of questions & most of those center around the gaffer, imo. Good result though and it was good to actually watch the lads live, while in the chat room, for a change. I feel more connected to the team when that's the case for some reason.

Amen to getting a little luck for a change. After 6 matches last season the black clould hanging over the club was palpable. Two wins on the trot and a squad that should only improve.
