I don't fault Baird for the second goal -- for two basic reasons:

    1. Once Grygera was beaten well upfield, Baird could NOT front him without leaving the entire right side of the field uncovered. He had to retreat and, while he did so, he positioned himself so that the only option Lennon had was to use his weaker left foot.

    2. Lennon's goal was a thing of beauty. I don't believe I've EVER seen him shoot with his left and this one was a screamer. He had an incredibly small window between the post and Schwarzer. He found it and he hammered it. In a one-on-one situation like this, when the attacker is so quick and tactiacally so sound, it seems egregious to blame Baird -- and I know Matt just doesn't like Baird as a CB. Face it, once Grygera allowed himself to be out of the play, the only thing we could hope for was for Lennon to miss. If he had, there would have been Eddie Johnson v. West Ham comparisons.

Don my Dad, in his late 60's, just went thru the exact same thing over the summer, gave us quite a scare. I mean it sounds exactly the same. His dad has been on meds for the same problem for like 20 plus years and it looks like my dad will be on them as well. That is awesome they caught yours when they did and good to hear things are back on an even keel.

Egregious? I blamed both Baird and Grygera for it. Both could have played it differently and prevented a goal. And I would have faulted any of our cb's if they'd played it the way Baird did, so it has nothing to do with justifying my feelings about Baird as a cb.

Watch the replay again. Baird has inside help coming back into the play, at a better angle. Imo, Baird has to slow Lennon or at least steer him wide. And he can't bite on the inside fake, where the help is closing in, and open that space for Lennon to shoot.
