Congrats to Spain even if the third place match was more fun to watch.

I wonder what passed through Roy's head when Torres pulled up lame.

Did I call the red card or did I? :-D

The better team won. Howard Webb just made sure the Dutch dirty tackles didn't prevent that from occurring.

DeJong should have been red carded after that karate kick to Alonso's chest. That guy and Von Bommel are a disgrace to football.

From all reports the Dutch coach and team complained about Howard Webb after the match. What did they expect out of Webb when the game plan looked like a mugger's guidebook?

    Sweet. :D

No idea how De Jong didn't see red for kicking Alonso in the chest.

    Unbelieveable.

The Netherlands has now joined Mexico and Italy in my axis of evil.

So what is the most likely outcome if he is injured again? It might make him less likely to leave Liverpool because other clubs will use fitness concerns to keep their transfer and wage offers on the low side.

I have not seen a Crane Kick like that since the Karate Kid. Wax on, Wax (the fcuk) off De Jong.

Humdrum of a final. Bright pockets here and there. I was pulling for the Dutch, but it would have been an unjustice had they won (& the De Jong stunt really made it hard to pull for them). Great goal to win it. Glad a new team won it though. Bravo & Felicidades Spain!

Shaking and quivering on the floor in a fetal position...WC withdrawls have set in.

"This ugly, vulgar, hard, hermetic, hardly eye-catching, hardly football style, yes it served the Dutch to unsettle Spain. If with this they got satisfaction, fine, but they ended up losing. They were playing anti-football." - J. Cruyff on the Dutch performance in the final.

Yeah, thankfully the Dutch press are blasting their team for their shameful and disgraceful display.

The popular sentiment has taken over, and blasting Nederland has officially gone out of vogue (because I say so). Nederland weren't nearly as ugly as the majority say they were, and Spain are not nearly the saviours you claim them to be.

Done and dusted, on to what lies next!

    Fifa WC rankings

    Fifa 2010 World Cup standings:

Some you can argue, like Brazil 6, and Italy 26....some you cant, like France 30. So of course it's all assumption and trying to pigeon-hole using numbers.

Like I saw someone complain about the stat for 'Golden Boot - Assists'

He's right.. and he's all wet, same time. Assists category is usually demeaned because it's an 'American Invention'. And certainly it doesnt mean a whole lot in a short series.. but it's there because it needs to be there when you evaluate players in an attacking paradigm.

And while we're debating 'useless', someone please explain why Fifa opened the windows for 'International Friendly' in August?

ENG sched'd Hungary, US sched's BRA!!!
    Why?

    RE: Fifa WC rankings

'fog. It's an international fixture window that'll be used heavily by UEFA for Eurocup Qualifying. I'll have to check and see if CAF and Asia are using it as well.
