It's 0622 CDT. It's looking like the last of the rain remnants of Alex have moved on out.

The flag is out on the staff. The first coals of the day are lit and waiting to ignite the pecan in the smoker. There's ribs to slow smoke, sausage and chicken to grill, and a few folks coming over -- as well as some family from Louisiana. Before 1000 the drinks will be iced down, and by 1400 we'll have food available and, I hope, the cheery sounds of children splashing in the pool.

Happy Birthday to all of us!

That sounds like a good time Hatter. My family will be heading over to Nana and Grandpa's for a BBQ, and celebrate a couple of birthdays as well. Nothing like a good BBQ on the 4th....mmmm, fooooooooooood!!!

    Happy Fourth everyone.

We are having friends over for some ribs and dogs. It will be the first real fourth in our new fixer-upper. We now have a big yard for the kids to play in and all we have to do is walk to the back of our yard to watch the fireworks on the golf course. I made my own CD of patriotic music, (1812, Souza, military songs, etc) so we can watch the fireworks with some atmosphere. Have a great day everyone

    Here's something upbeat:

I saw a link to a youtube on Leonard Bernstein conducting Stars and Stripes forever. Listening to it while watching Star Wars II, I immediately glommed on "I bet John Williams could beat that!!" I am sure you'll agree.

    Bernstein

    Williams

    But get this...
    And different, yet the same
