The other shoe echos from the future:

'With Jol, the grass is always greener..."

He loves playing the negotiating game.

Okay, we're warned. Who cares, we'll be happy to bitch about him this time next year or in a couple of seasons.

Re: Fog's article, of course it's always greener. We're Fulham and we have limitations. Any manager with aspirations isn't going to be with us more than 2-3 years. By the same standard, any manager who sux, won't either. There is 0 history of manager longevity in the last 40 years at this club.

Re: Andy's article, that would seem a pretty good indicator that Jol is staying put.

Who the hell knows though. Another day, still no answers...

I will say that we can understand the position that Ajax is in with Jol--it's the same one we were in with Roy.

For that reason I'm glad as a Fulham fan we might get him but I take no joy from taking another team's manager just before the season starts the same way the Poolsters took Roy from us. It all just sort of stinks.

On the other hand, I am not quite as concerned about how long it's taking to finalize given how long it took to finalize the Hodgson move.

here's the difference, Dave. Liverpool didn't directly negotiate, nor did they offer Roy a contract, nor did Roy agree to terms until AFTER the Fulham had given Liverpool permission to talk to him. As near as I can figure, we never even asked for permission -- rather we offered financial inducements to lure away a manager under contract. It's EXACTLY what we all hated Chelsea for with the Ashley Cole "tapping up" scandal, not to mention 'arry with Defoe and DaFreak at Pompey last season.

I don't think we're going to be looked at as an example of how to run a football team in the same light, regardless of how the Jol deal turns out. We've lost our white hat on this one, pards.

    Arrrrggghhh!

It's going to be embarrassing now to approach anyone as they and the the whole world will know that they're 2nd choice. We used to do deals in secret, but, what with our rising stock and the fact that our manager just left to go to Liverpool that is no longer the case.

    Sigh.

What an odd turn of events. You rarely see a club hold a manager hostage in any sport.

To Don's "white hat" comment, everything I've read says the club were approached under the premise that Jol had an out clause (that had in fact expired). So while not the most ethical way to go, it's not as dubious as some are making out.

We're sure to be another week w/o a manager now.

    Laughable.

I would say Fulham will now end up with Bob Bradley - but even he might snub FFC.

Well we tried. He tried. But it didn't work.

And if it did work then we could expect some legal action by Ajax that may be worse than what we have now.

Back to the drawing board. I don't expect a hire before August.

    bradley???

I would love to see Bradley get the nod as the first American coach in the premier league, but does anyone think he can be successful? I know he would work a team with every ounce of his soul, but I am just scared that some of the bigger names on the team wouldn't give him any respect. It might be the only way we can convince Dempsey to stay though, as I have heard rumors that some other teams are going to look to lure him away.

My vote goes for Ray Lewington. He's a gentleman, he knows the players better than anyone, and he's Fulham.

No top flight manager is going to come to us now when he's so publicly a 2nd choice. Rather RayLew than Jones or another CCC-level wannabe.

At this point, keeping Ray on for the foreseeable future seems reasonable. Unless Sven or Hughes, etc. come knocking, I don't think Fulham could grab any "big" name until the winter window. Maybe Ray does fine until then, maybe Fulham's in a relegation scrap, either way, it's all quite Fulhamish.

I remember hearing Ray Lew mention on SSN that he wasn't really interested, think it may have been after one of the preseason games. I'm sure he'd happily take it if offered, but his point was that coach and manager are two very different roles.

I still like Hughes, Sven, and Bilic, but I have a feeling its going to be somebody we haven't heard mentioned yet. And probably a bigger name.

    Sven is still interested.

FWIW, the 2nd or 3rd choice conundrum seems to me to be a media creation, that just because we (or any organization) approached someone else first that the next guy will be unmotivated for teh job.

Although, in Sven's case, I think that most would agree that 1) he is very talented, and 3) he's mostly in it for the money.
