RE: Our new manager Martin Jol?

Kathy read above... I moved all the posts from 'Transfer talk' beginning with the first mention of Jol..

Yeah, I got lazy, MGR talk had no biz in transfers

Jol would be good for many reasons.

    1) Winner.
    2) Brings in talent.
    3) Brings attractive and effective style.

What was the story with him leaving Spurs? I remember it being a weird saga, no? I maybe confusing it with another sacking?

    Senator,

    1. He wasn't sexy enough.
    2. The Full-time Idiots in the Spurs front office wanted a "continental style of management" with a manager/football consultant partnership.
    3. The entire Spurs squad came down with some sort of virus and got off to a bad start to the season.

So, despite the fact he'd gotten them into Europe two seasons running and despite the fact that they were playing attractive attacking football and despite the fact that the supporters flat loved him, he got the axe and was replaced by the brilliantly successful Juande Ramos.

Also, to those of you wondering why Jol would leave a Champions League qualifier in Ajax to join a mid-table team in England.

    1. He was pissed that the management was trying to sell off all his good players.
    2. [clearing throat]. The Eredivisie is in the same level as Portugal and Scotland [and I say France, but others think they're higher] -- nowhere near the level of England, Germany, Italy, and Spain. This is a step UP for Jol.

I love Jol for all the reasons everybody has mentioned. Spurs were nuts to let him go and hes proven that by doing well at Hamburg and Ajax. i could see us being a force* for years if he signs and stays on as manager.

I wanted Sven, but the Jol would be the better choice. Really the only manager I've seen linked that I didn't like was Bradley. Looks like we're being extremely slow, but picking out decent managers to look at.

Ray Lew leaving would make me sad. Not in the same way that Roy leaving made me sad, but sad just the same.

SSN says Fulham will announce Jol "later in the week." Soccernet said "perhaps Tuesday."

Ugh. I guess it was too good to be true? :(

Me guess Fulham were used for more transfer kitty demands at Ajax. Ouch.

Bob may be back in the picture; the "Beeb" certainly overstated the commitment in USSF's statement about him.

See, this is why I don't trust anything out of the British media.

Different sources are saying entirely different things. He's hired, he's staying, he wants to come but Ajax won't let him, Nigel Tufnel will be our next manager, blah blah blah.

And there's nary a single quote or attribution other than "reports".

Well "reports" say that I'm a hunk and could make a good CEO. How's that for some journalism?

Yup, it's all very frustrating. I guess we can only wait, and try not to read the press (hard though that is...)

Well, because when normal managers would just try to make their ten outfield players more talented, Nigel would use eleven.

And still it goes on. I suppose if Ajax want to dig in their heels then there's not much we can do. I read somewhere that the get-out-clause in Jol's contract isn't what it seems. Obviously I'm not taking my own advice about not paying attention to the press and have been reading every link I can find.
