I'm a bit surprised Sean O'Driscoll's name hasn't popped up yet. Former Fulham player, currently coaching Doncaster.

The problem with hiring a Curbs, Sven, or Hughes (I prefer Hughes for the record) is that if they achieve any level of success, they will bolt. It's what they do.

A guy like O'Driscoll is ideal in my opinion because I can't imagine he'd pull a Sanchez and splurge on bad players. He's a manager whos used to punching above water at Doncaster and would likely be able to spend his resources wisely.

But that's just my two cents. What does everyone else think?

I like O'Driscoll, but he turned down a Premiership post late last season to re-up with Doncaster. I think he's too loyal to jump.

Now we get to the point where Fulham fans have been several times before.

No matter who MAF gets in, player or manager, if they're good at the job, whether they are previously famous or not, any notable success will result in the guy being recruited to a bigger club.

So what do fans want... good safe mediocrity, or a brief love affair resulting in great memories but dull transient pain in the heart area?

That's an easy choide for you and me, Jim, but some of these guys are going to live long enough to actually enjoy a comfortable long-term relationship.

As sad as it is to see Roy go, it shows how much things have changed for Fulham. In the past, when we had an opening, we were linked with second-tier managers. (Even Roy was not highly regarded when we hired him.) Now, we're linked with managers who've managed at the top level of the game, including a former England manager and guys who have been successful in the Premier League (Curbishly and Hughes).

We should try to milk every season for all we can get out of it. If success brings vultures, then survive, rebuild/reload and go for it again. If you want to have glory to root for every year, you've got the wrong club.

We can either go for stable and underwhelming or have some Great Escape seasons paired with the occasional top half/tourney run season. Personally, I've found both exhilirating, so while the last two years have been more fun, none of the 3.5 seasons that I've followed Fulham have been boring.

Rumors are that the club is interviewing Curbishly but that the players want Zola.

    Heh.. a search on that

    And here's a tasty bit: Bradley ...

I think the Mail are reading MB's, myself.

Or maybe not.. Mail seems to have some meat in that piece
Now it aint like I'm really in depth on all that drama but I'd have to think that has some bearing on the decision.

Bob Bradley as a candidate actually makes the tabloids. Probably the same reporter that thought it up in the first place.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... dgson.html

    Here's the assessment of Bradley.

    Sounds made up.

As much as I voted for Bradley because he'd be cheap and I actually know something about him, I dont really want him as the Fulham manager. If he wants a Euro career, I dont think the Premier League is the place to start.

Rumors have also started about Lee Clark bein a candidate. Sounds like he's done pretty well as a league 1 manager.

I'm thinking that the Bradley thing IS completely made up. The only public comment I've heard/seen from him is that he would be pleased to re-up for the USMNT.

While I think the guy is a good coach and has the right temprament for a European gig, I already get weary from the anti-American sentiment on most Fulham boards when we've only got ONE yank on the squad and they actually like him. Imagine what it would be like for an American to have to replace Roy.

Lee Clark has come out and said that neither he nor his director have had any discussion.

There was an interesting comment over on CCN about the impact of Curbishly becoming manager -- if this happens.

Evidently Konchesky and Murphy would never play for him.

Thing is, The Alien will either be transferred this summer or January or we'll lose any chance of getting a fee. It looks pretty sure that he'll want to leave.

Other thing is, Murphy evidently spent most of his early summer by acting as a facilitator for Roy's move to Liverpool. This being the case, I think his days are numbered anyhow. And if signing Curbishly is what does it, then I'm all for it.

Is there some reason to believe that he wouldn't extend his contract (assuming Curbishley isn't the new manager)?

Useless players tend to make the best managers for several reasons; a)riding the pine forces a player to view the game in a different way b) fringe players w/little ability generally make it that far due to knowledge and feel for the game. That said, NO WAY would I want to give the young man the keys to the car. We need an experienced Prem manager.

HD, noticed on another post about Murphy facilitating Roy to 'Pool. Haven't heard anything about this, could you expand?

Sure, he's evidently spent a lot of time this summer in contact with his old mates at Liverpool. While the Plod board was still evaluating candidates, he was contacting Gerrard and Carragher telling them how much they'd enjoy playing under Roy -- there's several articles about this on SOCCERNET, BBC, and other places on the web.

Now, it's pretty certain that keeping Gerrard in the fold was a HUGE factor in determining who the new boss is. I can't imagine that Murphy's lobbying for Roy was ignored in the decision making.

In timmyg's Fulham TheOffside podcast yesterday [yes, it's a shameless plug], I referred to Murphy as the yenta in the marriage between Liverpool and Roy.

I'm sure he's a good guy, but I can't imagine he has too much future at Fulham after helping Fulham lose their manager.

It's looking more and more like it won't be Curbishley. There was an interview w/ him where he said he was told by the club that he was several candidates down the list.

Sounds like it's Sven's job if he wants it but I wouldn't be surprised to see Steve Clarke get it. Hughes is mentioned often, but I just don't see us doing the housecleaning (allegedly) we'd have to do if he were appointed.

I don't recall seeing Steve Clarke's name mentioned much previously, so maybe the Lee Clark thing was a case of mistaken Clark(e)s. Tomorrow's Guardian will probably link us to a Clark bar.

Looks Like Curbushly's out of the running?

    Fulham - Managerial Situation Latest!

Could Alan Curbishley be out of the running for the vacant Fulham job?

It would appear so as the Evening Standard tonight carries a couple of interesting quotes from the former Charlton and West Ham manager.

Much has been said of a supposed short list for the job and Curbishley, speaking to the reference paper, is quoted as having said,

'I was told I was on the shortlist but that there were a couple of people ahead of me, so I knew that was going nowhere.'

So is Sven Goran Eriksson the man in the frame and if so, who is the other?

    RE: Looks Like Curbushly

Craven Cottage Newsround speculated yesterday (for what it's worth) that the three guys who are still in the running are Sven, Hughes, and Slaven Bilic (Croatia manager since 2006).
