Times: Why Liverpool's next choice must be a wise one

Have no idea why the writer assumes Roy will take the offer, he provides so many reasons why it's the wrong choice.

I knew, just knew, there would be some LFC fans who are this presumptuous.

They want to cloak themselves in all of their history, league titles, European cups, etc. Fair enough, theirs is a great club, lots of history. All of that doesn't count for much going forward. WHo is more stable at the top now, Liverpool or Fulham? God forbid we had Hicks and Gillette as owners. What a mess they have made. Woy has to answer to MAF, who has taken this club from the thirs division to a European Cup final. We make our stadium work, and they are forever angling economically for another one -- I don't know of any shovels turning dirt for the new Anfield.

I liked it best when I heard Hull fans chant at them on the last day of the season, "You're ancient history! You're ancient history!"

That said, if RH leaves, I'll be happy for him and sad for me. I think they want Kenny Dalglish anyway.

soccernet today is reporting hodgson will take the job and erikson will step in for hodgson or maybe even hughes (sp) I fear for us if hodgson leaves, he just provides such stability and calm leadership that the success we have had these last vfew years is all a result of his leadership and I don't want to loose that. I would prefer hughes over erikson. That guy has made a mess of where ever he has been the last few years.

All SGE's problems have basically been about competing egos. Not a big problem at FFC as of now. Problem being SGE's ego, Roy's was not a factor.

So I vote Hughes and wish Roy the best... however I dont see how he's going to remake LFC. Such a long history of being.. well.. just insufferable and unforgiving.

I would rather have Hughes as well. For me you have to admire what he did at Blackburn. They were a good, tough team to play against.

I get that Liverpool is, well, Liverpool but why would you want to get involved in that mess. Their best players either want out or are rumored to want out. They are financially a joke. Again if a rumor is to be true they have 5 million GBP in transfer funds this summer unless they sell someone. Fulham have more than that. The biggest draw would be that at Fulham you're a God. At Liverpool you've got 18 months or less until you're unemployed.

Well in this poll of Liverpool fans, only 27% think Roy is good enough for them.

    http://www.liverpoolway.co.uk/forum/ff- ... nough.html

I predict Roy is in Liverpool to turn them down. Finishing second in Group C is not good enough - Roy already has the England job.

Good point, Mo... if he can deal with the egos at LFC, he could do even better at England.

They clearly don't grasp the depth of the hole they're in. The club have little money for transfers and are likely losing their better players. They need to pull big $$ results on a tight budget to continue to qualify for Europe or there won't be a recovery of their big 4 status. Roy is that gaffer.

Why Roy would go to Liverpool though is beyond me. Poor ownership, poor management, poor fanbase and they'll can him before he gets his system in place. Remember, we almost went to the CCC during that process if not for a Great Escape. No way the 'Fool give him that much rope.

    DON'T LEAVE, ROY!!!!

If only 27% of Scousers think you should take the job, then 63% of Scousers are fuckin' idiots. Don't move north and wait for the England job...

    Yeah... I dont see them being ALL that churlish but then I've read -or cared for - scant LFC MB since they were all on AOL. And you can imagine how much THAT skewed their collective IQ {No offense but it's true}

What they dont seem to get is you cant spend your way to success unless you're already there. They werent profitable BEFORE Hicks and Gillette and I dont get how H&G thought they could make them that way in the existing environment.

Like I said, H&G SHOULD have picked up someone like Newc's, THEN hiring Roy would be a masterstroke of restoration. Like Villa, Lerner and O'Neill.

And I DID appreciate that no one on there pointed out FFC's rank this season.. 'cause if Roy had concentrated on the League instead of Europe, I guess we all agree FFC would have ended higher than Rafa's joy-boys.

Grant Wahl (the SI writer) on twitter retweeted something from a journalist named Simon Evans who said "So Fulham job likely to be vacant. Ideal move for Bob Bradley?"
Any more rumors/news on whether or not Roy's going? I've been out of the loop for a bit because of some family illnesses, etc.
And can I please be the first to say NO THANKS to Bradley?

TonyTX42, hope all is well w/the family illness. Where there is smoke there is generally fire. I still have some doubts that the Scouser deal is done because of the England job possibly being open. However, if you look up Roy's club/country career it's 16 gigs in 34 years. He seems to be like the hoops coach Larry Brown where being restless is part of his makeup.

Let's keep it real, if anyone had told Roy 5 years ago when he was at Viking that he would be the frontrunner for the LFC job he would've had them committed. He isn't afraid of being fired, and he's used to doing the job w/out limitless funds at his disposal.

As far as Bradley, he has only a slightly better chance than me or you on getting hired as a manager for any Prem team. In order for an American coach to be considered he would have to win the WC. That or someone taking a squad from a lower division to multiple promotions.

According to Sky, Roy will be named new Liverpool manager today. Fulham will get 2 million in compensation.
