Not sure how this will effect the MLS.

My reading of it is that the NFL cannot consider itself a single entity when it suits them, and then at other times claim to be merely an association of independently-owned businesses. In short, they can't have it both ways.

The MLS actually IS a single entity. There is nothing two-faced about their position.

    I'm not sure either.

MLS clubs actually sort of 'hire' their players through the league offices.

Here's one of the opinions on the same site with a focus on possible union ramifications and who won/lost

    Read also Clayton's sidebar insert:
Now... looking at the background of the case, notice that "NFL lawyers joined with American Needle to elevate this"
American Needle wouldnt have done it on their own.. too expensive.

But here's the thing. Like JP says, MLS IS actually a single entity and all matters relating to revenue and salaries happen at the league level. Clubs are only able to write orders for good and services. Not only does the league control anything with logos, they control who plays where and for how much.. they dont just allow or disallow they control it.

That's why McBride being able to go to Chicago was a no-brainer. That's why Pires can refuse Philly and sign for less somewhere else.

Unlike NFL and MLB, MLS truly is the avatar for the health of the pro sport in the US....like it or not.

The bad part is that there will be 'unintentional consequences' of the administration getting involved in this... there always is.
Another case of fixing stuff that really doesnt need to be fixed.

nothing is for certain. but it is a small step in the right direction imo. If anything it might get rid of Adidas as being the single supplier of uniforms. I know once upon time Adidas was not the sole provider of uniforms, so I guess teams could have made these contracts on their own? If so, could MLS' single entity status be chipped away at one case at a time? I guess time will tell, and I think this ruling will be cited in a couple of them.

Yup. I don't think this ruling has any bearing on MLS at all. (Though admittedly this is far from my field of expertise.)
