    Pietr Nowak slaps him down

All cities are beautiful if you adjust your eyesight, sh$thead!

    I said elsewhere:
    - I have to make allowance for Houston weather, of course

I just Wiki'd the city of Villa Real. Population of about 50,000. Primarily an agricultural town (orange and citrus growers). Doesn't sound like a place that is oozing with cosmopolitan atmosphere and culture. Yet, he wanted to stay there and they wouldn't have him.

I think bad-mouthing Philly is uncalled for here (if that was his intention, though I'm willing to consider the possibility that the comments might have sounded worse due to translation), but I've gotta be honest, Villarreal sounds like it'd be an awfully nice place to live. You're right on the Mediterranean, the weather is probably nice year-round, the city has some gorgeous old buildings (also true of Philly, to be fair), and if you play for Villarreal then you're probably a superstar because they're the biggest thing in town. And while it is a small city, you're only 40 miles from Valencia if you want a more cosmopolitan experience.

Sounds great.. I see no reason at all for him to leave there. Let him take a cut in pay.

If each team only gets one designated player then I dont really get the point of the single entity rule that has effectively resulted in him saying no to all of MLS. If he went to another team it could make for some interesting away matchs up versus the Union.

He was obviously only iterested unless he got to go to a certain type of city and, right or wrong, he didnt think Philly was it. Just shows he's not the right guy for a designated player spot. Hey, I just figured out the answer to my question

    Two comments:

    1. Villareal does NOT have the Philadelphia Police Department.
    2. If folks in Philly are upset, then waah waah wahh. He's got the money now to say exactly what he said: unless it's a transfer too good to be true, why should he uproot himself and his family.

    I think it was funny.

Personally have never been to Philly, but know someone who calls it "Philthy". So maybe Pires has a point.

Well... the point is that he certainly has the right to pick his city.

    Actually ALL DP do.

But publicly bad-mouthing one particular city, further saying to the press that he only wanted to play in a 'Beautiful City' set his own ass up. I'm thinking more like Matteus than Beckham or GBS.
