You can find it in 2006 if you have a time machine.

But seriously, you could set up Ebay alerts for red USA soccer shirts and 2006 USA soccer shirts, and I'd figure one will pop up sooner or later. That's where I found my Pizza Hut Fulham shirt.

The Starting XI makes the purpose of this match very clear. Bob is filling out his SA roster. Hoping for some decent individual play here and there, and that we get at least one past Cech.

ah, man, left back remains a vacuous position - especially given Gooch's timidity and the possible need to play Boca at CB (shall the apologies to HD commence - Gooch isn't ready, maybe in a couple weeks...)

I agree on this. I had Pearce over Torres as of this morning, but Pearce looked beyond awful tonight.

I also thought Gomez and Buddle looked better than EJ.

Yes, Gooch did not look ready. There is still time, but I have certainly thought about the potential need to apologize about Don's marbles.

Did not exactly inspire confidence for skeptical US fans about the teams chances. I hope the 1st team stays healthy. and why on earth can we not produce LBs?

I think that if Cherundolo stays healthy -- and I thought he was our best player on the night -- then our first choice back four should either be:

    'dolo -- Goodsen -- Cheesehead -- Boca

    ------------------ OR ----------------------

    'dolo -- Cheesehead -- Boca -- Spector

Boca has his limitations at LB, but at least he plays that position for a living in a top-level [or nearly so] European league. Yes, there are wingers that will strip him bare, but those same wingers would eat Bornstein or Pearce alive.

I know that Pettyfog is predisposed to dislike any player who goes to Scandinavia to play rather than play in the MLS, but Goodsen is a solid, if unspectacular, CB and -- unlike Gooch -- can actually jump off the ground. He's played well for us consistently. If Boca plays LB, I'm comfortable with him in there.

Spector's best position is RB, but he's had lots of experience in the Prem at LB. Two seasons ago, I watched with a smile on my face as he mastered both Rooney and Ronaldo. He has his limitations, also, but if Boca is going to play central defense, then Spector is our best choice.

I take no joy in being right about Gooch. He's a brilliant player, but he hasn't played all year, and there's a reason why starting for your club side should be paramount when being considered for the World Cup. He doesn't have the match fitness or stamina. He didn't resort to fouling out of frustration, and he looked solid on the ground, but he got beat for a goal on a header from a guy 4 inches shorter than him. That would never have happened to the Gooch that played for Standard.

I also bemoan the missed opportunities last night for EJ, Pearce, and Bedoya. I don't moan so much for Sacha, since I don't want to see his whiny prima donna ass in South Africa anyway.

I thought that last night showed that our best strike combo will continue to be Altidore and Ching, and I really like the prospect of Gomez coming off the bench late to terrorize tired defenders.

Bradley's biggest problem today is deciding which midfielder to send home. Holden, Edu, Torres, and even Rogers looked very good out there last night. Aside from Sacha, who will he kick to the curb?

I think Gomez played himself onto the plane. His job is to come off the bench to score a goal(s), and he did it. He has been doing it in Mexico, and he did it last night. I think that justifies the spot. His pace was nice, and the quick shot was one of the few that we had.

I like the way Torres asserted himself in the CM role. He has a nice touch, he looks to switch and showed some defensive fire in a hard tackle by the sideline.

I am lamenting the fact that Castillo was never really given an opportunity on this team given the deficiency at LB.

having no left back is going to cost us guys. we were absolutely brutal over there all night. That is going to hurt us cuz it's going to force Landon to defend more and we won't have his explosive burst on the counter. That said, looking forward to seeing how we perform with our A team out there against Turkey
