Please leave me something to hold on to in these awful times.

But I am hoping we will see some good signings within a week. A Palhinha announcement tomorrow would really hit the spot.

I’m never at all sure how to decipher such information. It seems to be a fairly regular occurrence in the football world: club starts practice with no new signings, manager gets upset, vents to the press who dutifully report it, blah, blah, blah. I couldn’t help but notice that Senor Silva’s previous Premiership club, Everton, are amongst those listed as not having signed any new players yet either. Considering we didn’t hire Silva until after practice started last season, I’d say all of this is moot. Does anybody doubt Shad could spend double what we currently spend on player wages if he wanted to? How much will the new Riverside Stand end up costing!
    Much ado about nothing.

Happy 4th of July! And happy first signing!

Despite not having Premier League experience, this seems like a pretty good signing and addresses a key area of need. Hopefully a few more get over the line in the coming days.

    Ask and ye shall receive…
I’m not concerned about anyone’s Premier League experience. I only want to know if they can play this game exceptionally well. It’s the age old job application catch-22. Everybody wants experienced employees, but how does one get experience? Someone has to take a chance on you, and you either sink or swim. I think this lad is worth taking a chance on. Hopefully we’ll get some more. But they’re all a gamble in the end. Kostas “The Greek Tragedy” Mitroglou, anybody?

The window has just opened, folks. I know that T. Khan is our own personal Satan, but, come on ... .

Eating crow. Looks like we’ll be getting Solomon after all. Though it makes me ethically uncomfortable that we decided to take advantage of the freebie and denided Shakhtar an already agreed upon bargain price. Great business but a real dickhead move. My business ethics professor many years ago back in MBA school would point to something like that to illustrate conflicts between financial fiduciary responsibility and basic human decency. He encouraged us to fall on the side of the latter.

@daddude7 I agree with the concern over the ethical aspect of this deal, but I have seen some comments from others that indicate the issue may have been forced by FIFA. Of course it could be some combination of the two - delaying on getting a deal hoping for something better led to the involvement of FIFA. Either way, it is possible that it isn't quite as unseemly as it looks at first glance.

What I find a bit odd right now is the volume of left back rumors and the dearth of right back rumors.

Solomon having a medical today. Pereira tomorrow. That's more like it, and it should help calm Silva (and me) down. :) I know folks are mixed on Pereira, but I think that Silva is the right kind of coach to get the most out of him.

Romagnoli is probably a pie in the sky kind of proposition, but it would be awesome if we snagged him. Same with Leno. Nice to see us linked with some good right backs, but I wish we'd come closer to Liverpool's valuation of Williams. He's worth it.

Do we really need a new left back, though? I feel like Robinson and Bryan are good enough to hack it in the Prem if the system is right.

If I could have all of my wishes (after Solomon and Pereira), we'd get two CBs to partner and compete with Tosin, a GK (Leno would be great), one RB to compete with Tete, one RW to give Harry some competition, and a striker to compete with Mitro and Muniz. That's it. I think we'd be set if we got 8 more senior players, after Palhinha, this summer, but we need to get them well before our first match of the season.

One more thing. I think our new academy signing from Juventus is inspired. He strikes me as a Carvalho-like talent. Here's Kristian Šekularac three years ago, at 15: . It will be interesting to see how he develops.

I think he's ready for the Premier League. I recognize that this might be a minority opinion, but he's good at finding and then utilizing space. He's quick and committed.

I don't think you need to eat crow. I share your same concern with Khan. I worry that the Khan's are taking the early approach that Kroenke took when owning sports franchises. They didn't invest in star power and focused more on their return. Recently, they have. Look at Kroenke, championships in NFL, NHL, NLL, Nuggets are legit contenders with healthy squad. I still don't fully trust Kroenke, but winning sure helps. You don't have to be an expert in the sport, but you do need to surround yourself with experts. It doesn't appear that Tony is doing that.

Thanks. Well, it now seems that TK didn't read the full FIFA rule and didn't realize that to get Solomon on a free, the player couldn't join until August 1. I wish we had just paid what we agreed. Since I'm of Polish extraction, this reminds me of the time Legia Warsaw played Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers. Legia won but fielded an ineligible player for the last couple of minutes -- they had forgotten to read the rules. Got disqualified. Makes me tempted to tell a joke with some lightbulbs in it (I have the right to). Now baby Khan is looking for a "creative solution." https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2022/07/...xt-signing-on-tuesday-need-creative-solution/

It would seem that Tony hasn't learned from his mistakes, at least not so far.
    Discouraging.
And we still need to upgrade our defenders. Otherwise we'll be shipping goals the way the Titanic took on water after striking the iceberg.

Please stop with the Tony Kahn assumptions to fit a narrative. If you don’t believe that Fulham have highly paid attorneys that are reviewing every aspect of the Solomon deal on behalf of Fulham you have no idea how contract negotiations work. No idea whatsoever, and the trope of trying to paint a negative picture of Tony with no paint is painful to read.

Not liking Tony is your prerogative, but the last couple of transfer windows have been at a minimum good and the last thing I can point at Tony doing that irritated me was his Twitter tantrums which by recent evidence stopped some time ago.

If you don’t like the Solomon deal as it exists today I get it, but I guarantee you there is a team of individuals behind that decision including the elder Kahn who, by several reports I have read, is the person who made the ultimate decision to quash the original deal in favor of the loan.

I hope it's not the elder Kahn leading the way in decisions and evaluations of players. I hope it's professional scouts. As far as the business side goes, I'll defer to the Kahn's. Just hope they want to build a top program and not targeting a ROI % for their portfolio.

From the gossip I’ve read, and please take it with several grains of salt, the business decision to pursue a loan under the new FIFA rule came from Shahid. Of course, that and $10 might get you a cup of coffee.
