Wales certainly won't be considered a European powerhouse but that looks like a pretty decent squad to me.

It'll be interesting to see how often Chris Coleman and other managers from heretofore also ran countries invoke the Leicester City miracle before and during the group stage.

Hadn't realized Pajtim Kasami didn't make the Swiss side until this morning, when they lined up against Albania. Can't find anything on the interwebs about him being injured, so I guess his form is off.

Watched Wales against Slovakia and I am very happy for Chris Coleman. Jazz made a late appearance, but Fulham's Williams didn't appear. Robson-Kanu has evidently been released and is looking for a club. Hmmmmm.

Oh, when Bale scored early in the match, his was the first Wales goal in a major tournament since they scored in a world cup match ... in 1958.

Talk about your long dry spells.

Considering that only 8 of 24 teams will be eliminated and it's a weak group Wales is all but through already. Echo the happiness for Cookie, perhaps this will springboard him back into English football if he is so inclined.

Got to give it to the 3 Lions. They always seem to find new ways to give away points.

considering England didn't drop a single point in qualifying, they DO seem to show a propensity toward grabbing their own collective throat when not under the slightest pressure.

Given the behavior of English supporters I shed no tears in their concession of the extra time equalizer. Senseless violence (as a benchmark, I attended the Giants and Dodgers Friday night - and those teams, supporters, don't like each other; but, aside from a single dust up outside the stadium, the fans leave each other alone [physically] and support their clubs, oh, there's a good deal of smack talk but no flares or chairs are thrown around).

Germany is a machine. Looking forward to watching the dvr of Belgium and Italy tomorrow night.

what you didn't see 'cause you were in the ballpark was a tv shot of four young ladies sitting together wearing -- from my left to right -- Angels, A's, Giants, and Dodgers caps.

Italy schooled the young Belgians today, Poland won their first EVER Euro match, and Zlatan couldn't get the Swedes past the Irish. Been pretty entertaining. Actually, BOTH big summer tourneys have been entertaining. Good excuse to stay out of the heat and watch footy all summer. Brooks is the MAN!

Getting a kick that Gabor Kiraly our old backup GK is playing for Hungary. He's 40 and wearing baggy sweatpants that you'd find in a Rec league game. 70th minute and the Hungarians are surprising a trendy pick in Austria 1-0.

Edit: Hungary won 2-0, and hadn't realized that old fan favorite Zoltan Gera played the full 90 for the Hungarians.. Will never forget his winner vs Hamburg.

Really enjoyed watching Iceland draw with Portugal.

After the game, when the players were shaking hands, Ronaldo was so busy being a drama queen about not getting a superstar call at the end that he ignored the Iceland players. What a scumbag.

England and Wales tangle w/two former Fulham managers locking horns. Hart with a howler on a 40 yard Bale free kick (not Green v Dempsey in the WC bad, but he has to stop that). Roy finally benches Sterling and Kane, and is rewarded with a Vardy goal. 1-1 w/plenty of time.

EDIT: Sturridge saves England in stoppage time. Seeing Roy's reaction was priceless. You could just imagine the English media pulling a Robert Duvall in The Natural, making cartoons of Roy with horns and a billy goat's gruff before the goal. They'll have to put the knives away for time being.

Aaron Hughes and Steven Davies starting for Northern Ireland.

Seeing the unbridled joy of the Northern Irish fans when they put the match away was fantastic.

Aside from a couple of chances generated by the rejuvenated Paul Pogba, the France-Switzerland match was akin to watching paint dry. I wonder how Lloris feels playing behind an actual defense. Don't know if home country advantage will help Les Bleus that much. Many of the pundits are calling them the favorites, but I don't see it. What I do see is the Spain we saw in South Africa in '10. The tiki taka is back in full force, and DeGea is an upgrade from Iker in every way. The Azzurri have been impressive defensively, but I just don't see them scoring enough to win. But they may not have to. The big question mark is the Germans. I think they miss Klose, Lahm and even Per more than anyone realizes. And Schweinsteiger had just a so-so year at Old Trafford, and doesn't seem to be the same player he was two years ago. Many teams still have an outside shot, and there has been a flurry of dramatic, late match winning goals. Hope that continues. I hope Hungary get eliminated soon. Can't stand to see Mr. Sweatpants any more.

England kept trying the same thing (slow side to side passes, cross it into the box filled w/2 Slovakian defenders to every English player) and expecting a different result. Slovakia saw that point as a good chance to reach the final 16 as the could get and to Ronaldo..that was parking the bus.
