Baseball 2015

Thanks for Jeff luhnow. He's done an incredible job thus far. Considering where we were just a few years ago this has been a very quick turnaround. This is really only year 2 after hitting rock bottom(51 wins in 2013). The next 5 years are gonna really test luhnow and this ownership group.

Problem is that the Cubs/Pirates have to play the Cardinals in the NLDS. This season as a Cubs fan has been all kinds of exciting, but also frustrating being in this division. Makes me wish the MLB would go the way of the NBA and just do playoff seeding by overall record, regardless of division.

 

Houston fans have to be optimistic about the pitching matchup. Keuchel threw 16 scoreless inning against the Yanks while knocking around Tanaka in his lone matchup this season. Keuchel is pitching on 3 days rest which actually might help his slider, will New York be patient and make him bring the ball up?

 

Let me guess which pitcher's strike zone will be larger? Whoever is the home plate umpire will have a new home in the Hamptons, courtesy of Fox (Not NY) if he 'keeps it fair.'

I love playoff baseball. What if the 'stros just throw together a crazy run a la the '02 Angels (grrrr), the '04 Sox or '14 Giants? Own it, Astros.

 

And HD, between the Jays, Royals, Cards and Pirates/Cubs, I think if any of those clubs won the world series I would not be surprised. If Mr. Met or the Dodgers won, I'd be surprised. Whatever they may be, the matchups for the LDS will be juicy.

 

Houston's Dallas was outstanding. Looking forward to the Bucs and Cubs tonight...should be a doozy.

Really glad the Astros survived. Just the kind of club than can give the regular season heavyweights fits. As for tonight, I have no rooting interest. Either club will present a stern test for the Redbirds. And we don't necessarily match up well against either. And Matheny named Lackey the game one starter today. I'm just not sold on his viability as a big game pitcher at this stage of his career, but we'll see. The Braves cuffed him pretty good last time out, so take that for what it's worth. I know his post season stats are good, but.....that and 99 cents will get you a cup of coffee.

 

Heavyweights on the mound tonight in Pittsburgh. Arrieta and Cole will probably keep the score low. I was in high school just outside of Chicago when the Cubs made their magical first playoff run in forever in 1984 and I can honestly say I've never seen a city (in any sport) so amped and subsequently heartbroken. I can only imagine what the bars are going to be like in that town tonight hanging literally on every pitch. Let's Go Cubbies!!

 

I'm really getting sick of this Marlins clown cluttering up my screen. With my O's out of the picture, I think I'll root for whatever team doesn't sell him seats behind home plate...if such a team exists.

 

Ahhh, the recipe for heartbreak city was concocted tonight. Damn those Pirates, and nothing against the Cubs, because I wanted the Bucs to win but so goes playoff baseball.

 

It's hard to believe this is the same Jake Arrieta that scuttled about in his time in Baltimore (20-25 record). All he needed was the first two guys at the top of the lineup to do all the damage (Fowler and Schwarber knocked in/scored all 4 runs). Cards v Cubs is a huge rivalry even if it's historically lopsided. Card fans laugh about the Cubs, and Cubs fans look down upon the city of St. Louis and Southern Illinois in general (the southern part of the state is Cardinal country). Going to be a great series to watch.

David Price gets worked again, Josh Donaldson suffers a concussion, Joey Bats limps off in the 9th...Toronto in serious trouble w/Cole Hamels going tomorrow for Texas. Beltre messed up his back, so it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the Rangers, but highly likely they'll go home with 2 chances to put away the Jays....UGH

 

They sure look like a loose and confident bunch and unaware of their surroundings against the Royals. Reminds me of someone...the Royals of 2014.
