After the unmitigated disaster of not qualifying the last time around the US kicks off with Canada tonight in Kansas City. Unfortunately unless you have NBC Desportes you won't be able to watch it live. Rubio Rubin wasn't released by his club, and Cody Cropper is injured which is a major concern. However, Emerson, Gedion, and HD's favorite Carter-Vickers will be there. The only acceptable goal is to get to the final, where both teams will be going to Rio. Whomever wins the 3rd place game will have to play a playoff with Columbia to qualify which is a daunting task. COYRW&B!!

Is this a thing? I love it.

Anywho, very disappointed that this game is only being broadcast on an obscure Spanish language sports channel. I really don't understand the logic there.

Because the networks have confined themselves that the only people in the USA who care about football are Latinos. It's why the USMNT plays on Fox Sports 1 and El Tri plays on ESPN.

Can't take any credit for that CC, I stole it from Nev and HD doing it over the years.

A brace from Jordan Morris and a late goal from Luis Gil gets the boys off to a good start, 3-1 final.

Easy victory for the US against Cuba 6-1. Jerome Kiesewetter and Luis Gil having standout tourneys so far, and Emerson with his first ever U23 goal:

Next up, Panama tomorrow at the home of the Colorado Rapids and the all-important semi-final (win and punch a ticket to Rio) on Saturday.

4-0 win (scoreless first half) for the US youngsters and now are 1 more win from qualifying. Kiesewetter and Morris sat out the first 45, but they have developed great chemistry as the moment they came in the attack came to life and those two involved in all 4 goals in some form or another.

2-0 loss to Honduras?? What a horrible day for the Nats of all ages. Have to beat Canada for the second time in 10 days (going to be difficult to pick up the pieces) and then beat Columbia in a one game playoff in Rio for the right to go to Rio....odds are low.

First bit of good news for the US in the last 5 days. The kids did comeback from that huge disappointment against Honduras and beat Canada 2-0 for 3rd place to give themselves a chance. The playoff w/Columbia won't be until March.

Good for the boys, that's at least some hope...not much of that permeating the ranks of the USMNT these days, so we got that goin' for us, which is nice.

With Carter-Vickers and Rubin out, that leaves on Zach Steffen as one of the three guys I'd never seen before that really impressed me in the World Cup. Hope some of this will be on television, although it's difficult enough to get the older guys on the tube.

nice! The away match is on a domestic channel, while the full men's team's away games will be on beIN Sport, at least for a while.

Have no idea what to expect from the Columbian fan base as to how big a deal this is and what kind of home field advantage they will have. Not sure if the away-goals rule is in play, but a 1 goal loss wouldn't be a bad result.

    Yes to away goals rule.

    From US Soccer site: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...mpic-qualifying-playoff--first-leg-game-notes

"The Olympic Qualifying Playoff between the USA and Colombia is decided in a two-leg, aggregate goal series. The team with the most goals after the two games (180 minutes) will advance. If the teams are tied on goals after the two matches, the team with the most away goals will advance. If the away goals are also equal or both matches end without any goals being scored, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played at the end of the second leg. If no goals are scored in extra time, the winner will be determined by penalty kicks. If both teams score the same number of goals in the extra-time period, the visiting team is declared winner on the basis of away goals counting double."
