Lovebite scores the winner??? Finally something involving Fulham (even though remotely) doing some damage to Brentford.

Sunderland and Leceister with huge wins. Newcastle only managed a draw v West Brom. However, Hull with the big choke today. They had Burnley at home and lost 0-1. Hull now trail by 2 with Spurs and ManU left to play...oops

Ouch, QPR didn't try to put up a fight. Now the question may be how far down did they get relegated? Still haven't worked a deal for their Financial mess from last season.

And if QPR does get knocked down to League 1, does that mean Millwall would stay up? I suspect they will come to a resolution that keeps QPR in the Championship, but it would be interesting if Millwall was resurrected. I imagine their fans would rather like the role of playing zombies.

Theoretically, Rangers could drop down to the Conference. I'm not sure what would happen re Millwall. It could turn out that both L1 playoff finalists would be promoted.

Thanks for the clarification Don. I didn't realize the "Football League" was the Championship along with League 1 and League 2. QPR going down to the Conference Premier league (I assume that is where they would end up) would have quite a domino effect. Someone would have to make space for them. Would that club move up or down? And so on from there. League 1 and League 2 could both end up with four promoted teams. To go the the other direction the Championship could only relegate two teams but then someone expecting to get into the Conference Premier league would be squeezed out.

I THINK that number of teams promoted never changes, only number of teams relegated. I believe that this year the conference south had 21 teams instead of 22 and only relegated 1 team instead of 2. Conference north and south for those not familiar are 1 ring below conference premier. I think it may be possible(though unlikely) that the championship would only carry 23 teams next season and only relegate 2 teams next season to get back to 24 teams.

Once upon a time -- when even I was middle aged -- the Premier League was formed as the result of a hostile takeover of the old Division One by the FA. The idea was a smaller league would have fewer matches. The theory at the time was that it was the 24 team league plus cup matches made English players tired and that a shorter schedule [38 instead of 46 matches] would return England to a European power. Since the FA is in charge of the English MNT … .
Then came "super friendlies" -- top clubs in England meeting those in other countries for big one-off money. This is what basically made Manchester United an international brand. What followed there was the European Cup -- then comprised of ONLY league champions across Europe -- being turned into the Champions League. Suddenly, the top clubs were playing 60-70 games a season, and the English MNT didn't improve [of course, they weren't all that good anyhow]. The FA didn't care at this point, because there was so much money coming in from international television.
The Football League, stripped of its prime money maker, figured out a way to make the most of it. They -- unlike the Premier League and the FA -- still have a strict code of conduct. Luton Town were demoted and forfeited 45 points over TWO seasons for the same financial irregularity. It doomed Luton to departing the league for a few seasons. If Fernandez doesn't pony up the fine, they may go the way of Luton.
    I won't cry.

Fernandez strikes me as one of those owners with more money than sense. He'll probably pay it...because he can.

Our neighbors travel to Middlesbrough Friday knotted at 1-1 with drama that I was unaware of. Brenford's manager Mark Warburton has done an amazing job by getting them promoted last year and now in the playoffs this campaign. The Bees play a nice brand of football, but apparently their owner is an idiot and thinks he knows better. Warburton is gone as soon as Brentford's season is over no matter the result.

We get to play Brentford as well (along with QPHa means 4 true Derby matches!!). Middlesbrough dismantled the Bees 3-0 to reach Wembley.

League 1 saw the highest scoring match in playoff history as Swindon Town and Sheffield United drew 5-5 (Swindon advanced 7-6 on agg). Didn't seem that long ago when Sheffield was in the Prem (pretty sure they were the casualty in the whole West Ham Tevez debacle), now they can't even get out of the third division.

Not sure about Sunday's League 1 match (FoxSoccer or Fox2 used to broadcast it, so would expect them again), but Monday's Norwich v Boro match is on Bein at 10:00 am EST.

And then there was two. Sunderland managed their 9th 0-0 draw and 17th draw overall (both EPL records) to survive leaving only Newcastle and Hull City for the final spot. The Tigers will have to beat (a draw does them no good) ManU at home. If Hull manage to do that the epic collapse of Newcastle might ironically be finished off by former manager Fat Sam and West Ham, where because of their terrible GD it would be a must win or be dropped situation.

I just goggled 'who'll be broadcasting...' Up popped Bein tv. Last night they had an ad they were showing League 2, 1, and Championship finals on tv. Only problem is they had the dates wrong (1 day late). So it's shrug the shoulders time and hope for the best.
