Because he has such a strong record of sound transfer decisions in England?? Sorry, too easy.

Jermaine Jones scored his first MLS goal tonight. The Revs have been playing some good soccer since Jones joined the team.

And the resurrection of the Senator's home team continue unabated. Quite a story.

The 2014 MLS Playoffs kicked off last night with a minor bang as FC Dallas topped Vancouver on a late penalty due to a (somewhat questionable) hand ball. FC Dallas advance to a home and home series with Seattle.

Tonight the sports fans in KC can start putting baseball behind them as Sporting KC start their title defense at Red Bull Arena. Should be interesting since Sporting will be out for revenge after the Red Bulls notched a 2-0 victory in KC 4 days ago.

I missed the winning goal, but SKC never looked like controlling the game. NYRB moves on and SKC fails to defend at the first hurdle.

Is Olbermann THAT clueless? After all these years the jury is still out....says something in itself.

For you not familiar... 'Massive' used in conjunction with Crew or anything about Columbus means it is Parody/Snark....and a term created by a Crew Fan. It is fairly easily researched.

HOWEVER.. all that good nostalgia, aside..

Most important match to me... NE @ Cols... Well, wait till next year. NE took it 4-2, so the Crew has to win by 3 at NE. Not gonna happen.
Crew improved at end season when it counts, Revs improved - meaning Davies and Jones - more better. They'll be playing for the Cup in Seattle

LA drew RSL @SLC. Advantage Gal's. Let's face it.. this series is to find out who's gonna lose to Seattle in the West Championship.
    Picks for 11/2
Seattle and DC, no matter the venue.

They get the name thing from the Bundesliga, its a pretty popular occurance there, particularly for goal scorers.

Didn't know that the MLS instituted the away goals rule this season for the playoffs. Seattle gets the tying goal at Dallas and are now in the driver's seat.

Glad to see Charlie Davies' perseverance pay off. Add in Jermaine Jones and Lee Nguyen and the Revs are dangerous.

Tell me about it! NE beat Crew like a drum Away and home. 7-3 aggregate/ Davies and Nguyen each with 2 goals, while Jones was distracting the hell out of them.
Damn it's hard being a Crew fan, sometimes.
WAS pretty sure it was gonna be NE and SEA... but after the way LA has been playing... mayebe the GALS v REVS instead.

I really hope the Klinsmanns were watching that last night...as a family.
And at some point, I hope Debbie piped up and said something like "you know, Jurgi honey, you probably should have kept him on the team."

I wish the media and general public could drop the USMNT/Donovan talk and just appreciate his performance for what it is. Donovan deserves better commentary in my opinion because he was amazing last night. He wasn't perfect but he was about as close as one might get to being so. My best guess is the entire right side of the RSL defense probably woke up with cold sweats after dreaming about trying to defend Donovan while simultaneously having to pull up the underwear that kept mysteriously appearing around their ankles.

The win by LA was as comprehensive a victory as I can recall in quite some time by any team in any sport. They literally won every single facet of the game except for injuries.

Sitting among the Galaxy supporters in the southwest corner of the Stubhub Center, I can definitely say that was a heck of a lot of fun. As Barry said, it was pretty comprehensive. Landon got the headlines (and the #1 spot on Sportscenter's Top 10--on a Sunday no less), and rightfully so. But, my goodness, Robbie Keane can still play.

Seattle earned their way to the Western Conference finals versus LA via the nil draw with Dallas.

My biggest take-away from this match is WOW Fabian Castillo is fast! Like really fast! Not Landon Donovan fast but way faster. Dude made Seattle defenders look like they were standing still at times. Other than that I am looking forward to the Seattle-LA and New England-New York conference finals. There is some mighty fine soccer being played at the moment.

Seattle looks tough, NE looks tough, NY looks tough...but my goodness, LA is on fire. It's as if all of the pieces are falling into place for the Galaxy at the right time. And that Donovan guy is still pretty damn good.

Alonso's injury, and I don't know the severity, could be a big problem for Seattle.

The crowd atmosphere in both LA and Seattle (b/c those are the two matches that I watched for more than 10 minutes) was amazing. And I agree with Mr. White, the overall level of soccer played in the semis was some of the best I've seen in MLS.

Caught the winning goal in the east today and watched the entire Galaxy v. Seattle thang. I think LA will rue their inability to get a second today. As for Seattle, it's a shame they waited until the last 20 minutes to decide to attack. I think they could have had a couple if they had given Martins and Dempsey any support at all.

Oh, and I'm getting a little sick of Twellman. He spends 80 minutes bitching about lack of support for Seattle's attack and then 5 minutes rhapsodizing about Evans and his great work supporting the attack.

If I want to listen to a whiny, self-important U of Maryland alumnus, I could just listen to some of the commercials I've recorded.

Oh, and is Thierry Henry really going to get away with ditching the second leg so as to keep from play on carpet? And, by the way, I think that MLS should not have any club playing on carpet covered concrete.

Only saw the highlights (I assume Tim was there and he can give a eyewitness report), but because of the away goals rule I think Seattle is in trouble. One goal from the Galaxy on the counter and the Sounders will have to score 3.

Fantastic goal from Teal Bunbury to get Revs on the scoreboard in an eventual 2-1 road win.

HD, what's this about Henry? The Revs play at Gillette (saw a story where they are trying to secure land near downtown Boston for a soccer specific stadium) which has grass.

I toured the Seahawks/Sounders stadium, and got to walk on (okay I snuck on and took a quick picture, before the tour guide told me to get off). Don't confuse old astroturf will this new material, it has plenty of give. The material itself isn't that abrasive astroturf, but is actually soft.
