This might have been discussed on a previous thread, but i've been out the last few days after a surgery. Why wasn't Smertin available for the match?

first off, hope all went well w/the surgery and you're on the road to recovery dtwondough. I didn't see/hear anything, so I think it was a tactical.

Yes I think he's out of favour for some reason. Dropped as far as I know, not injured.

Hoppy, you have our Texas boy in fine company there in your signature. I for one am honored to see an American in that lineup.

"Macedo, Cohen, Dempsey, Callaghan, Langley, Brown, Haynes, Robson, Leggat, Earle, Clarke, Barret. "

    Thanks, pard.

Different generation I'm afraid. My Dempsey was John Dempsey. A tall, skinny, highly effective 'centre half' as they used to be called. Solid defender in the 60s/70s. Republic of Ireland international. Eventually sold to Chelski.

That's ok. Clint is on the way to becoming a Fulham legend.

Ugh. I just typed out a long rant about why Smertin isn't playing ... but it went like Houdini and dissappeared on me.

Recap ... Start Smertin and have Murphy as a late substitute. If nothing else, have Smertin on the bench for Murphy when he isn't performing.

Laurie's lineup has been pretty fluid the last few weeks. I expect to see Smertin back in there soon (especially since Murphy hasn't played very well lately).

Perhaps Sanchez promised Murphy a certain number of starts, and decided to use him against a few of our weaker opponents and save Smertin for tougher matches. At the very least, that keeps everyone happy and rested.
