Mark Schwarzer was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia today (January 26th is Australia Day, commemorating the arrival of the First Fleet in Australia in 1788) for his service to soccer and the community. In addition to being a mainstay for the Socceroos for over ten years, Schwarzer is a representative for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and has co-authored four young adult novels about a young soccer player.
