Pope John Paul was a Fulham Fan

I just got a book called "Rivals" (not related to the Rivals web sites) from www.sportsbooksdirect.co.uk. It's a fun look at the 92 FA clubs.

Anyway, they repoprted that the Pope was a Fulham fan: "(T)he pontiff used to be a regular at the Cottage when studying to be a priest at Toehampton. The claim of papal backing led Ken Myers of Independent Fulham Fanline to phone the Vatican to check the veracity of the story. A spokesman confirmed the Pope's support and wished them luck for their next fixture against Wigan."

 

I read this right around the time of the Pope's passing a few weeks ago. It made me smile. I have heard this was a false rumour, but I am gonna believe it to be true!! Ironically enough, the Pope passed away the day before the Pompey match. Perhaps he was watching over the Whites and the Cottage from heaven.
