From the Friday BBC gossip column:

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce is persisting with attempts to sign Coventry's Gary McShaffrey. (Daily Mirror)

Bruce has also made a shock £1m move for Fulham striker Brian McBride. (Daily Mirror)

I can't see them doing this. Who'se going to score the goals? Collins John? Sure, on the days he shows up? HH? He's not a #1 EPL striker.

If I'm not mistaken, the contract is for one more year, and it was just recently signed. Brian hasn't aged much since then. Since CC hasn't made a move to get a striker who can play right away, I can't see the transfer. I figure CC plans to keep Brian as the man until DC Heather's Darling is ready to replace him in the front line -- maybe halfway through the 2007-2008 season.

Can't slag the Brit press for this though; they have to write something. How many different teams has Bobby Abreu been guaranteed to go to in MLB the last month or so?

I dont think we're gonna throw blame around at anyone here. Brian's value is recognized and Bruce knows full well about his goal production (or lack of). But to think that Brian would go at this stage is certainly a poser.

Is it something he wants on his legend notes.. that he helped bring a team back up? That would be the only reason for him to go, since this is his last year over there.
And Birmingham isnt London.. in fact, it probably isnt even Columbus.

I think he would pass it up.

Just when I log on and get a smile from the acquisition of a bonafide left back...

    ... this better be false.

The only way I see McBride leaving is if Coleman pushes him out due to McBrides age. If so Brian deserves better.

    McBride is not going anywhere!!!

We do not have any striker lined up that could replace him let alone we have only 3 and a half (yes Heather, Rumstrom is only a half due to his age) so for this reason alone he is staying.

I don't care if Runstrom has long, pink hair and wears a tutu as long as he ends up being the player everyone believes he will be. i don't think McBride will be going anywhere, it just wouldn't make sense at this time.

What is it with Birmingham City? This is a second time they've made a bid for a striker that they have no business going after. I guess if you had to depend on forwards like Heskey and Sutton to score goals for you in the past, then you would do anything within your power to get players that are actually productive.

I don't see how CC could be pursuaded to sell off his Mac.

As an ex-Michigander, I second this statement....and if you don't watch it you'll have a good 'ol fashion riot on your hands

Well, if he does leave (which I still doubt he will) it would fit right in with my collection of jerseys with players' names:
Philadelphia Flyers Lindros, Brewers Burnitz, Vikings John Randle, Vikings Randy Moss, Bucks Ray Allen, and somehow I acquired a San Antonio Spurs Dennis Rodman jersey.

The only jersey I own with a player's name on the back that still actually plays on that team is a Bears Brian Urlacher jersey...and I'm not even a Bears fan.

You should pick Babe Ruth, Doak Walker, etc. Dead players seldom are transferred.
