Here is Peter's report from the first game of the season:

In the opening game of the season for southend wanderer?s fc the team faced moneymore fc away.

I set up the formation as 4-3-1-2 so we could take advantage of our pace in the midfield. Moneymore used a 5-4-1 system.

The game was played very nervously but at a high tempo by both teams in the first half with not two many shots on either side at goal.

During the halftime I changed the formation to a more attacking 4-3-3 to see if we could punish their defence which were lacking pace against our strikers.

Within the first 10 mins Dolapo omatayo curled a shoot from the left side of the box beating the keeper only to see it go wide of the bar.

For the next 20 mins we rained down shoot after shoot against their keeper who had an outstanding game. In our own goals Fergal davey pulled off 2 crucial saves of the line and Michael young made several crucial headed clearances.

In the last ten mins of the game 2 huge mistakes by the ref cost us a win.
The first was when Dolapo omatayo cleverly dummied move in between 3 defenders locked back on the ball then calmly rounded the keeper and scored but the ref judged that one of our players was offside on the far wing, then helda mota caught a back pass to the keeper and placed the ball between the keepers legs he was also judged offside. So the game ended 2 mins later as a 0-0 draw.

Our next game is on Tuesday may 10th against NPL international.

    NPL INTERNATIONAL 1 V 2 SOUTHEND WANDERERS 10th MAY 2005

For this game I set out a game plan of using the 4-4-2 formation as NPL were a team who play similar attacking football as us.
In the first half we open the scoring at ten mins when Dolapo omatayo made a run down the right wing cutting the back of the defence and calmly rounded the keeper before slotting the ball home. The game then sprung into a higher pace with NPL coming close with two shots one going out of the crossbar. Daniel Silva then placed a through ball through there defence and doplapo shot into the top corner but was judged offside by the ref. NPL then broke through our defence from a free kick in there own half and a low drive saw Fergal davey beat as the ball went in the far corner. The team held out the last ten mins of the first half to go in one all at the break.
In the second half our team took more control of the game and played more passing football slowing the game down to a pace in which we could exploit there weaknesses. Tai David?s had a goal disallowed as one of our players ran on pass the goalkeeper as the ball crossed the line. Jipy amaryao sealed the win with fifteen mins remaining with a break from a corner in which Fergal davey cleared the line with a punch to which Dolapo locked on to and took pass three players before chipping it to Jipy who took the shoot on the volley from just outside the box.
Next game first home game against ravensdale fc Sunday 15th may. :D

    SOUTHEND WANDERERS 3 V 1 RAVENSDALE FC 15th May.

In our first home game of the season we faced a tough game against ravensdale who were unbeaten since the start of the season.
The game started tentatively in the first few minutes of the match with ravensdale getting an early corner which our second choice keeper Kevin mc entagart cleared the ball off the line with his foot from this Tai David collected the ball and fed it through to Dolapo omatayo at the half way line were he made a run to the left wing then cutting in through 3 defenders to slot the ball into the top right corner at 12 mins.
5 mins latter with a quick thinking cross from Teddy amao let Dolapo through again and with a sublime move to beat 5 players he then rounded the keeper to walk the ball in the net. The game then quietened down and we came in at half time with the lead comfortably secured.
In the second half we got off to a bad start with ravensdale getting a early goal from a corner in which our keeper came out to clear the ball with a punch and some how punched it into our own goal.
I think this goal is exactly what our players needed to get themselves back into the game as from then on we dominated the game with Sadiq Ramon putting one shot over the bar and then hitting the bar on another occasion we finished the game of on the 75th minute when Dolapo with a clever link up from helda mota turned in round the 2 central defenders to chip the ball into the net from 15 yards out to seal his hat trick and also earn him man of the match. The game then quietened down for the last 15 mins with us securing or second win of the season.
Our next game is against bluebell rovers on Tuesday 17th of may a side who has been tipped to win the division and move up to the premier league.

    Bluebell rovers 1 v southend wanderers 3

So we went into this game as the underdogs against the team tipped for promotion
With it all to play as the winners would go top of the table and remain unbeaten.
The game started at a fast pace with both teams looking for a quick goal to put pressure on the opposition. The game stayed at this pace until the 30 min when Brian Murphy was taken down from behind by a bluebell player just in the oppositions half
From this Michael young hit a strong free kick into the bluebells box which was knocked down by Peter Emanuel into the path of martin hoey how fired it home into the bottom left hand corner. After this bluebell put the pressure on with wave after wave of attacks but our back 4 held strong and Fergal davey pulled of 2 saves to keep us ahead going in at half time.
In the second half we started to play more confidently passing the ball more crisply with bluebells defence starting to show gaps on the 70th minute Dolapo omatayo caught the ball on his foot from a kick out and flicked it over the top of 2 defenders rounded them then walked the ball into the goal passed the keeper to make it 2-0 bluebell got a goal back within minutes from a free kick which ended up in our net after a scramble to clear it.
The 3rd goal for us and Dolapo?s second came 10 mins from the end when he got the ball from our own defence and took it up the pitch around 5 players to slot it in calmly pass the keeper.
So we are now top of the table with 3 wins and a draw out of our 4 game with Dolapo having 6 goals in 3 games.
Next game is Friday 20th may against St melas who have 3 wins out of 3 so hear goes for another big game.

A very disappointing result for us tonight as we were well beat in the top of the table clash. We were 1 nil down at half time and were still in the game but within 10 mins into the second half were lost 3 players to injury. with a depleted squad for the match due to injuries from the game on Sunday things took a bad turn for us with 2 goals being scored in 5 mins the team did all it could to get back into the game but with the heads down there was little hope of a come back on the cards and with our leading scorer Dolapo omatayo carrying a back injury we missed the clinical finishing which he brings to the team. So well beaten and 3 points lost there is not a lot more to which I can say only all we can do is put this behind us and turn our attention to our next game which is against carlingford fc on Monday 23rd of may.

    SOUTHEND WANDERERS 3 V CARLINGFORD FC 1
Having going down 4-0 to st melas on Friday the team had a meeting on Sunday to analyze what went wrong. So with this done we went out to night to get a good performance as well as a result. we also went into this game with 5 of our players out injured this put more pressure on the lads to give a top performance for those who were not available.
The game started very tensely as the lads did not want to make any mistakes in the game we got our first goal about 15mins into game when matins o?sas broke down the left wing taking the ball wide then around 3 defenders and placing the ball into the net to the right of the keeper.
After this we kept up the pressure with Dolapo omatayo hitting the bar twice before carlingford broke through with a counter attack hitting the ball off the bar then rebounding in off the keeper. The score remained the same until half time.
In the second half we stepped up the pressure changing our formation to 4-3-3
This gave us the extra attacking options we needed with Dolapo carrying an injury from the previous game this worked as helda mota score from a volley from 35 yards out the Sadiq Abdul? rahmon finishing the game off with 15 mins left when a clearance from the carlingford defence came out to him and he struck it low and hard into the bottom corner.
So this brings us back into contention with us now back in second with first place bluebell ahead of us on goal difference but they still have to play st melas who were beat last night.
Our next game is on Sunday 29th may against faughert so all going well we can get back on our winning run and start to move clear at the top of the table.

    SOUTHEND WANDERERS 5 V FAUGHERT FC 1

With a good win needed to bring up our goal difference the team turned it on with style Sunday evening with a comprehensive win for us. We went ahead within 10 mins of the kick off when Dolapo omatayo turned 2 defenders and place the ball under the keeper?s side. Then faughert got a goal back when one of their players was judged to have been taken down in the box by teddy amao who got a way with a yellow card. With 5 mins to go Dolapo got his second of the game when a faughert defender tried to back pass to the keeper which he locked on to and rounded the keeper.
At the start of the second half we got our 3rd goal of the match when matins o?sas was brought down in the box and Daniel Silva slotted the ball home.
We got the last 2 goals in the last ten mins of the game when Dolapo received the ball in his own half and went on an amazing run around most of the faughert mid-field then their defence to score his hat trick, after this he nicked the ball of one of their defenders and slammed the ball into the net.
Our next game is against mill Celtic on Tuesday 31st of may

    SOUTHEND WANDERERS 2 V MILL CELTIC 1

In an incident filled game we came out with a slender win which also shows the character that the team has developed. In a high pace game Dolapo omatayo opened scoring when he went wide to the right of mid field and collected the ball then cut through their defence then rounded the keeper to score.
The score remained the same until half time with mill Celtic having 5 players receiving yellow cards then the game turned on its head when in the 10th minute our keeper was given a straight red card for taken down a mill Celtic forward in the box one of our strikers Isa Ibrahim stepped into goals mill scored to level the match.
With the boys heads dropping and I knew that the opposition team were starting to tire we switched formation to 4-3-2 so that we could keep there defenders under pressure this worked as mill could not move more men forward as they had 3 players marking Dolapo omatayo but this couldn?t stop him scoring a beautiful goal when he chested the ball down on to his foot and turned and shot passed the keeper to seal the win.
Our next game is on Sunday 5th June against demesne Celtic.

    SOUTHEND WANDERERS 1 V DESMENE CELTIC 1

In what can only be described as a dire result and total lack of commitment from southend wanderers to take the game and play football as we should do saw us drop 2 points to a team how are struggling to score goals.
From the start of the game it was clear to anyone watching that we not passing the ball cleanly as we do and giving the ball away to easily.
Both goals were scored in the first half from what can only be described as messy clearances form both teams defence.
There is not a lot more which can be said about this game only that some players needed to take a look at themselves and see were they went wrong.
As a manager there is nothing more frustrating than seeing some of the best players in this league play with no desire and cost the team to drop 2 places to third position in the league, hopefully we will be able to look back on this game and see it as a wake up call that no team can be taken for granted.
Next game Friday 10th June against Rangers Fc.
