    Lessee. Where to start..
    oh... yeah!

that done, have you watched the movie, 'Idiocracy'? Do you get that it has a serious message?
    - BTW: If you believe that 'Animal Farm' and '1984' was about RW Fascism because it was written by a Socialist, you probably don't.
    ;)
Do you realize that the Pope's adviser on 'Climate Change' says flat out that Governments should be run by scientists, not elected pols and bureaucrats?
    Because the people are idiots.

Of course that guy is paid by the taxpayers of Germany and is further out than even Al Gore on how the globe is gonna burn up if we don't put Government in total charge of energy use.
Germany certainly listened to him and their electrical grid is now teetering on collapse, and over a million Germans cant pay for electricity.
Well, maybe the people ARE idiots. I still hope not, but -like we say in the other thread- the jury does seem to be deliberating a long time on Trump. And Hillary.

Well, that's good enough for openers, I guess.

'fog, but I need my electrolytes. Maybe all this country needs is a "Mayor Joe Quimby?" And if the smartest people in the room are allowed to create policy and govern, well, I'm intrigued. Tell me more. Still, how the blessing of permission for the best and brightest to govern would work given entrenched politics is an honest question. My "Starbucks"-laden mind cannot conceive a comprehensive plan...must be the electrolytes. I need a latte.

I was confused when the folks from Enron made an appearance, missed the declaration...and they also ate all of the pastries.
The science-background angle hasn't succeeded in my lifetime, but damn if that shouldn't be an avenue for voters to pursue with a third party. The "Einstein" party, or whatever the title.

I would be rather partial to a Chocolate Chip Cookie party. If they promise free chocolate chip cookies for all, count me in. Pandering at it's finest.

But, seriously, Fog, I'm lost in your meandering post. Are you proposing we are dumbing down as a society? I'm not sure, it seems that way from time to time. Especially with Bieber and reality TV. But what older generation hasn't said that about the younger generation? And were the good ole' days really that great, I suppose that answer depends on who you ask. But I'm not ready just yet to forfeit my voice to "smartest" people in the room (well, maybe for a cookie). My grandmother would often and ever so kindly use the phrase, "Experts don't know their asses from their elbows."

Lol... And yes, that is what I'm saying. Generally speaking, yer Gramma is right in direct proportion to how much funding they get from political sources.

To put it bluntly, you judge expert's opinions by the language they use in conveying them. The reason there actually are Climate Change Deniers is by lay persons looking only at the language used by the so-called experts.
No one with a basic understanding of physics -which is all I have- is ever going to deny CO2 'holds' heat. Or that Man-emitted CO2 MAY have some effect on global temperatures.
HOWEVER I can show you WHY SOME 'experts' are fulla crap on their theories, by using only common examples that you run across in your normal life. And I think I will -on another thread.
    So there!
    :)
Dumbing Down? - I went to school in the fifties which was supposedly before that even started and when I later saw my dad's HS science and math books from the early thirties, I was astounded.
    - Here's the up side from my personal example. I dont remember 'LEARNING' a damn thing in HS, other than a few principles of math and my grades sucked, at that. What i really learned I learned by myself on my own time because i was curious. I think you'll find that is shared by the best and brightest as opposed to those who learn by rote.
I remarked on here some time ago about Neil deGrasse Tyson citing ancient beaches on Venus as an example of how CO2 catastrophically heats planets. I say that is complete and utter bullshit, unworthy of any so-called scientist. and will challenge him anytime anywhere to explain how that worked!
I bet Carl Sagan would never have said that. I'm pretty sure Sheldon Cooper, and maybe even the guy who plays him, would blow him away on that little 'Drive-By' gem.
Speaking of... surely you dont think all of Sheldon's narcissistic angst is just fiction!
Here a real live commentary from a real live insider on why Sheldon has cause to fret and deny:
The Worst Jobs in Science: Theoretical Physicist

I find this amusing because it also speaks TO climate {as well as dietary} science as to concept of 'The Science is Settled!"

so, ignoring the fact that it isn't a video, I searched for "room" -- two hits -- and "smartest" -- one hit, but I didn't see even a second-hand report of Obama saying "I'm the smartest man in any room I'm in."
    Got video?

No, it's anecdotal. But relayed by a person who would have no reason to lie about it.. in a publication that could hardly be considered 'conservative' or anti-Obama. And of course he would never say that in public.
Obama, who is not without an ego, regarded himself as just as gifted as his top strategists in the art and practice of politics. Patrick Gaspard, the campaign’s political director, said that when, in early 2007, he interviewed for a job with Obama and Plouffe, Obama said that he liked being surrounded by people who expressed strong opinions, but he also said, “I think that I’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters. I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I’ll tell you right now that I’m gonna think I’m a better political director than my political director.” After Obama’s first debate with McCain, on September 26th, Gaspard sent him an e-mail. “You are more clutch than Michael Jordan,” he wrote. Obama replied, “Just give me the ball.”
As ancillary proof I can find MANY images of His Awesomeness gazing pensively at something representing any person or event he is commemorating. This speaks to how he regards his connection to our ordinary world.
And I can find numerous sayings by sycophant admiriers pointing out he is so smart he's way ahead of anyone he's debating.

Not to mention the brilliance of the crease in his pants. Or leg tingles experienced by those simply watching him.

So basically, "he said it hisself, how did you miss it" is easily answered: We didn't miss it because he didn't say it. As anybody who didn't have a hate-on for the prez would know.

Nothing to see here; move along. SOS-DD

Okay.... When the NYT makes a point I agree with, I quote it. The whole point is that they wrote an article, with an Obama statement that made him look rather... ahem.. detached. And then RATCHETED it back. Not deleted, but in several steps the whole thrust of the article changed.. BECAUSE ....

So you are saying that it's not fair and balanced becuase I dont take NYT's word for it?
YOU are saying that timelining NYT backtracking isnt FAIR?!!! If they dont do it themselves?

    REALLY!?

THIS is totally MY POV on the incident... and reflects NYT editorial political positions, generally, on Obama specifically, and everyone knows it.
Ever since their 'eminent >> CONSERVATIVE<< columnist noted he could tell Obama had greatness by the crease of his trousers.
I think the urban defined Teabagger descriptive works just fine.

No, I'm saying that the Washington Times and The Federalist are not sources to cite if you want your opinion taken seriously.

Who the hell is going to call out the NYT? WaPo? MSNBC?

It's not an opinion... unless you think if you dont SEE it at NYT, it never happened! If that's the case you are their kinda guy!

    onward and upward...
    Outrage of the Day:
So Ted Cruz makes a snarky /cute video using his daughters as Participants
Whereupon a Major Media contributor draws a cartoon representing her view of the relevance of it, showing the Cruz Kids as Trained Monkeys regurgitating Daddy's Politics.
Whereupon the Cruz camp gets all upset, saying "Hey, leave the kids out of it."
Whereupon the Lefty media says 'Hey you brought it up!'

Yep... and while we're on the subject:

re the juxtaposition the rant -- dying for a verb, by the way -- with the video: huh?

I know there's a message in there somewhere. You might try simple declarative sentences that build towards a conclusion. These drive-by phrases may sound cool to you, but remember that writing is communication that requires a sender and a receiver.

Use of Children to espouse Politics... or political personalities is odorous! No one gets a free pass!
The line is when the candidate kids say more than 'He's my daddy and I love him'.
    ****
    speaking of Free Passes. Hah!
"But.. but.. we've always been your FRIEND!"
G.E.: HEY, WE DIDN’T THINK OUR INCESSANT CRIES FOR BIGGER GOVERNMENT AND MORE REGULATION WOULD EVER IMPACT US!

Only people who noticed GE pays almost no taxes are Occupy and Conservatives.

    ****
    Slow clap is in order...
RNC has proved they are everything either the Tea Party or Progressives accused them of...

Fox News Channel host Greg Gutfeld argued that while he doesn’t have a problem with GOP presidential candidates “schlong” remarks, he is sick of the fact that “no one will ever stop defending the crass stuff he says” and that he has a problem with people at FNC defending the remarks considering “we’re not even allowed to use the word that he said” on Tuesday’s broadcast of “The Five.”

Fox News seems uncertain of the line between 'Explaining' and 'Defending'. I could make the case for either side of either.
But I can explain Trump without endorsing him in the least. Which can't be said of supposed Trump Tea Party supporters.

Which means some Tea Party are everything the RNCe have been afraid of.
