Here's a surprise: At halftime it is Peru 1 - Uruguay 0! Didn't see that coming!

Peru takes down Uruguay 3-0 with 2 great goals in the 2nd half coming from the flow of play.

The commentator made a great point: If Peru can come out and play with such gusto against Uruguay, perhaps the U.S. squad can come out and play with some guts against Argentina and really leave it out there on the field. All signs point to the U.S. being overwhelmed by Argentina, but hopefully they will put up a fight.

I would love to see the look on Hugo Chavez' face when Bolivia equalised.

And...Venezuela is wrongfully denied a penalty in the 90th minute and the score stays 2-2.

Ecuador - Chile is already 2-1 in the 23rd minute. Bad defending, or excellent soccer? You be the judge!

Well, Chile equalized TWICE and then went on to win it. Great game. 3-2

Did anyone happen to catch the Mexico v. Brazil match last night? I watched it on telefutura and it was one of the most exciting matches I've ever seen. Wasn't pulling for either side to get a certain result, but loads of chances, shots hitting the posts, players blowing by defenders with pace, missed opportunities and some wonderful free kicks.

Castillo...could of easily bagged a second goal but shot wide. He also could of set up his teammate for a wonderful opportunity on goal but instead decided to go at it himself and wasted the chance.

Anderson...EPL be warned...this kid is a future world beater. Fantastic display.

I read this thread, caught jmh's post, and turned on GolTV (so I caught most of the 2nd half). Brazil just looked bad - had some individual skill, but they had real trouble stringing passes together.

Ronaldinho and Kaka both pulled out of the tournament. Fred, I guess, just wasn't in the lineup last night.

Three guys getting their first senior caps (Wynne, Moore, Gomez) and four others with less than ten (Feilhaber, Kljestan, Mapp, Clark)? Against Argentina's best? Uhh... I guess this is an opportunity for Kasey to show what he can still do!

I knew that Argentina would bring some stars, but not all of them. That is a loaded lineup and IMO the best side in the Copa America. I hope the US doesn't play like Guatemala and stick 10 men behind the ball. Not our style...although it wouldn't be good to end up with a 5-1 scoreline either.

So glad to see we're taking our "B" squad and starting the "C" in the 1st game. Have to echo Andy's comment about DeMerit, if he's not hurt(?) WTF is he on the team for??? Pearce and Jay should be in not that retread Califf and Moor. I'll be cheering us on and I hope I'm wrong, but a beatdown is in order w/this lineup.

Yikes! I think were due for a beating, perhaps it a blessing I have to work tonight.

Perhaps the plan is to write off the first game as were unlikely to get anything from it and focus on the second two. I'd rather we just give Argentina a go, but if were looking to get out of the group..........
