    1. I'm pretty happy with the moves Roy's made this off season, but why are we still keeping Mr. Baird around? He's not worth the

    2. What are your thoughts on Ki-Hyeon. I know he's also on this list
http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/2008/04/the_xi_worst_pl.html but I think he has some quality in him still and would like to see a bit more of him this season.

I don't think Baird is that bad. He's not the answer at RB, but I think he's a decent CB. He did win player of the year at Southampton in 06/07, beating out Gareth Bale and Kenwyne Jones, so he must have something.

Seol is weird. I thought he was pretty terrible last season, but after looking at some stats, I noticed that he was actually a very good defensive player. If I were Roy, I'd give him a run out at fullback.

Interesting re: Seol. One thing with an attacking midfielder in Deuce and now a Pantsy is that Roy will certainly have versatility in this year's squad. I'd still like to see us net a quality striker...

..come on Andy Johnson! Open the purse, MAF!

Aside from the idea that it's worth a try to give Baird a chance at center back, it just doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to offload him right at the moment because we wouldn't get even half of what we paid for him a year ago.

The fact that this is completely true does nothing to change my revulsion every time I hear that he puts on a white uniform. Honestly, I think Woy would be better off to release him. This would say, "We made a mistake. He is not good enough and has to go." He can even pin the blame on the previous regime. At what point does a roster spot become more important than a transfer fee? In this case, I say that point has been reached.

Unfortunately, Baird has 3 years left on his contract, so it would require quite a bit of money to buy out the rest of that.

If it'd cost you the same amount of money to buy him out as it would to keep him around for the rest of his contract, you may as well keep him around for injury cover if nothing else.

    "Well done."

    Better coaching=Better player?

I think the best we can hope for is a solid backup center-back.

Baird was at his best under George Burley at Southampton. He's miles ahead of Sanchez, and probably close to Roy's level as a coach.

Personally, I thought Baird was miles better in the last 10 games or so of the season(though I guess to be fair everyone was). He was embarrassing for the first half, but I've got high hopes that he can be at least serviceable this upcoming season.
