    Hi All -

Just to get our minds off of the recent FFC form... what is the best concert/gig (for our UK friends) you've seen recently? I was fortunate enough to catch the Arctic Monkeys last Saturday night at Alexandra Palace. Honestly one of the best nights of my life - pure energy on stage, crowd singing every word, beer flying through the air, amazing light show... Anyway, this was probably my best concert experience. What is yours? Any recommendations for bands currently or soon-to-be touring?

As a former Deadhead, I'd also strongly recommend either Phil and Friends or Ratdog - both tour a lot. And the reformed Dinosaur Jr. is a 'must see'.

    Happy holidays to all....

The best concert I saw in the last year was Shout Out Louds. Good energy and great music at a small venue. There are few bands that can translate studio albums into their LIVE performances. Shout Out Louds nailed it and really cemented themselves into being one of the better bands out there in my opinion.

Since you said "recently" I have to say the Woodbury Elementary School 5th grade band. 250 kids who have been playing their respective instraments for about 3 months. The basoon player fell off the stage.

Thanks to all for the suggestions! Especially Terri's list which will keep me busy throughout 2008. Going to Radiohead in Victoria Park in June - high hopes for that one! Any other suggestions welcome...

My best concert was Subhumans about 4 years ago. They are a british punk band in case you do not know. It was super fun and only $10 which is cheap and the venue was decent. The pit was amazing and so was all the people there.

Yes, you must. We all now know what you're doing when you're not watching Fulham. j

I saw Matthew Sweet on the list. Is he still making music?

Matthew Sweet did a side project with Susanna Hoffs (Sid and Susie). Apparently, he is working on a new album.

Just went to the Band of Horses/ Tenement Halls SHOW on Saturday...was quite amazing.

BTW- The list I posted was written after a friend of mine and I had tried to name all the SHOWS we've attended...so I had it already written before someone posted this thread. Left off several SHOWS...these are the ones I felt were the best from the past few years(except for the obvious older shows).

to give you an idea of the generation gap working here, here's the last three concerts I attended:

    1. sly and the family stone
    2. Journey/ELO [journey were strictly instrumental. They were so new -- two sidemen freshly split from Santana -- they hadn't even auditioned a singer. They were the opening act for ELO]
    3. Crosby Stills and Nash

The most recent of those is more than 25 years ago.

Twenty five years ago, what about the shows you do, doesnt that count?

BTW neither ELO or Journey (dont care so much about them) are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think ELO should be when you consider some of the other inductees.

Off the top of my head (no, not every gig I've ever been to):
    - U2 as the headline act at Phoenix Park in Dublin; other bands playing were: Eurythmics, The Alarm, Steel Pulse, and Big Country. A looooong day.
    - The Shirts -- seeing them as the first band I ever saw at CBGB's and then 20+ years later, the last band I saw at CB's.
    - The Clash, at NYC's piers on the Hudson: final encore was "White Riot". In the rain. The only band I've ever seen that exhausted its audience.
    - Ultravox at Lincoln Center (yup!). Weird setting, but an excellent show.

1st show: The Police and The Fixx 1983 at the Old Comiskey Park in Chicago.

Best Stadium Show: Pink Floyd at the Rose Bowl.

Best Arena Show: Rush..can't pick a favorite concert, seen them upteen times.

Best Smaller Venue: The band (Live) at the Wilturn in LA. Berlin on a sidestage at KROQ's flashforward from the 80's

Best Hole in the Wall Show: Albert Collins playing the blues at a little place in Phoenix

Biggest Regret: Had a chance to see Stevie Ray Vaughn in Tucson, but being a poor college student was my excuse for not going 'I'll see him the next tour' (never a time when I hear him playing when i don't feel a tinge of regret for not going). Know exactly where I was when I heard about the helicopter crash.
