With over a handful of games in, here is Ives top 25 teams. I chose Ives' ranking because he has Akron rated higher than the coaches' poll ;) . I think we have a few posters on here who will be happy to see Maryland in the top spot. :banana-dance: Akron is rated where it is because the loss and draws have come at the hands of Notre Dame, St. Johns and Creighton (all in the top 15). Plus they have convincingly beaten other top teams including a 5-0 shellacking of South Florida.

Gotta pull for the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara since Arizona doesn't play D-1, but nice to see UC Riverside in the rankings as well.

It would appear that the golden era of Louisville soccer is over....

You can blame the MLS superdraft for that one. Dont worry you have a good coach, they'll be turning in the results by the end of the season.

I always follow the University of Evansville but I will be watching Notre Dame with some interest this season due to a local soccer talent featuring for them this season.

Was checking the programming on FSC and cool to see Virginia at #8 North Carolina being shown this evening 7pm est. You would think if the channel commits to showing a 'game of the week' on fridays that schools would be more than happy to arrange their schedules to get exposure.

I don't know when it stopped but the NCAA used to air frequently on Friday nights back when I had Directv and FSC. I did notice that Foxsoccer2go features one or two NCAA matches a week now.

    18. (19)- SAINT LOUIS (6-2)
    19. (13)- NORTHWESTERN (7-1-2)
    20. (25) HIGH POINT (9-0)
    21. (NR) WAKE FOREST (7-1-3)
    22. (NR) ELON (7-2-1)
    23. (NR) SMU (6-2-2)
    24. (NR) CORNELL (9-0)
    25. (NR) TULSA (7-3)

Only undefeated, untied teams left are Marquette, High Point and Cornell. Notre Dame suffered a loss not only to Louisville, but then UConn as well. Akron has had relatively easy conference matches the last few games so I'm not sure they should've moved up three spots. Never heard of Elon. College soccer is one way to learn about Div 1 schools I didnt know anything about

Ives' latest rankings. Akron slowly moving it's way up with eight straight shutouts now that their conference schedule has kicked in. They also named Caleb Porters successor - assistant coach Jared Embick. Looking forward to the NC v Maryland match tonight

Division 1 tournament brackets are set. Akron gets screwed for the second year in a row. Despite being ranked #1 in every poll they got the 5th seed which conveniently means no home field advantage. Keep in mind the Zips never lose at home, no team in the history of the NCAA has ever enjoyed such a home field advantage and the NCAA has contrived a way to keep it from them once again. Here are the brackets. Go Zips!

It's down to the quarterfinals of the College Cup. The big surprise is Farleigh Dickinson knocking off both St. Johns and St. Louis to remain alive. Several of us still have our favorites alive - Maryland, Louisville, and Akron - so the tournament is being good to FUSA posters. Really hoping New Mexico can "upset" U Conn who basically stole a top four seed away from Akron (U Conn coach was on the tourney selection committee), then Akron can play their semi at home. Come on you Zips!! Here is a link to the bracket. The next round takes place on Sunday.

Yup, the Cards are still in it, hosting Northwestern next on Sunday night. Who'd of thunk it? And yes, Mo, Ken Lolla is a tremendous coach. And one of the mainstays of the 2010 runners-up is doing well...

Austin Berry of the Fire is the MLS Rookie of the Year.

    Other side of the coin....

Northwestern's turnaround in the last ten years is nothing short of remarkable. When current coach Tim Lenahan joined the program in 2001 (back when I was on campus), NU was in the middle of a 35-game winless streak. I was a sportswriter for the paper and remember writing an article touting the new recruits Lenahan was bringing in; he was rebuilding the program from the ground up and for the first time in a long time there was a glimmer of hope. (Cheers to the Daily Northwestern's archive: http://dailynorthwestern.com/2002/05/27/archive-manual/putting-nu-on-the-map/)

Now they're coming off back-to-back Big 10 regular season titles and are regulars in the NCAA Tourney. If you want to read about the turnaround (with better writing than mine): http://dailynorthwestern.com/2012/1...er-lenahan-takes-program-from-worst-to-first/

In any event, I will be cheering them on Sunday. Go 'Cats!

    Hey Tim,
It's 1-1 in the second half at Cardinal Park. Here's an interesting article in our paper about one of the reasons for their success this season...Louisville kids.

Louisville's through on an 87th minute goal by Sophomore Dylan Mares of Zionsville, IN, 2-1 over Northwestern. They'll play Maryland in the Elite Eight Saturday the 1st @ 5 p.m. in College Park.

Found a feed to watch the second half. I'm curious to see if the decisive goal goes down as an own goal or if Mares is given credit. Regardless of the official scoring, it was a great play by Mares and a brutal way for the 'Cats to go out.

Hats off to the Cardinals; it was a close match, and a well-earned victory.

Thanks for sharing that article about NU's team's Kentucky roots. Glad those guys could have the moment of getting a playoff match in their back yard, even if it ended in a loss.

I'm still reeling from Akron's loss to Creighton. They dominated possession, shots on goal (11 to 2), and shots (31 -10), but still wound up short due to a missed PK just before regulation time ended and then a missed PK in the shootout. The Zips two best and most reliable players are the ones who missed the PKs that could have seen them through, how utterly heartbreaking is that. Woe is me, my Zips are out and Caleb Porter is gone :crying-blue:
