He's a left back, 'fog, and is a natural left footer. He showed well in his few minutes. Face it, we're hurting at LB more than at any other position. I agree with those who say that he should be called up before the Denmark match.

Well, the match is tomorrow morning at 0900 LIVE on FSC. I'll be checking it out. Here's my starting XI:

Guzan; Spector, Goodson, Bocanegra, Pearce; Bradley, McCarty, Feilhaber, Dempsey [wow is our squad weak in MF OR WHAT!!!]; Altidore, EJ

Slovakia are tough. If they play their best XI, I think we lose 2-1

Castillo has good speed and likes to get into the attack.

Today's match was more about who wasn't there than who was. What we really needed today was someone who could put in that quick burst of speed to turn a defender. We also needed someone who could deliver a telling through ball. We also needed someone who is excellent at dead balls. Yeah, all three of them are Landon Donovan. Without him, we stood no chance of scaring the Slovakian defense.

Defense was everything today. Their defense was solid and disciplined. they were proactive and never let our attackers get settled. Our defense [with one glaring exception] was also brilliant.

Biggest disappointment? Eddie Johnson. This was a good opportunity for him and he wasted it.

Best surprise? Dax McCarty. I've been a fan of his for quite a while now, and he was instantly effective.

The ref crew did a good job of playing advantage and not resorting to cards every five minutes. The players did their job by not diving a whole lot.

Finally, big ups to Brad Guzan. The worlds largest leprechaun was solid in positioning, handling, and anticipation. And he's good a butt-load of guts and confidence.

Agree with every word Hatter said. Only thing missing was that I thought Dempsey showed up for the US today. I wish Bradley would have left him in for the full 90.

I thought the game was blah for everyone.

    Guzan made some nice saves.

It was sort of like 75% of Fulham's away matches under Roy, actually.

I want to see EJ do well, but I still got a chuckle out of this e-mail from a friend:

"EJ is wearing #36? Is that his ranking out of the 23 spots?"

Also, thoughts on Spector at CB today?

Could Bob being looking at this future backline once DeMerit or Gooch gets back?

I thought Spector, 'dolo, and Boca did great. Bornstein shouldn't be allowed out of the MLS, however.

I think Spector can play anywhere in the back four. His anticipation and quickness can make up for anything physical that he might be lacking. My concern is 'dolo's injury in the last minute or so. Is there any feedback on its seriousness?

Hmmmm; the article says that 'dolo isn't injured. He sure didn't look good hopping off the field on one foot in injury time yesterday.

Good to see Castillo, Torres, and Holden called in. I think if we have Holden on the right wing instead of Rogers on Saturday, we might have done something.

I just want a forward that I have confidence in and who I know is capable of scoring on his own at any moment. Davies was that guy, now who will it be? Altidore? Maybe one day. Dempsey? Not likely for a full 90 minutes.

But with a lot of promising midfielders having good outings in recent games, maybe we can afford to move Dempsey up top for the full 90 and have EJ come off of the bench. Although his performance Saturday wasn't exactly inspring.

I liked Feilhaber and Bradley in the midfield, then if you put Donovan in there and maybe Holden? that sounds like a decent line-up. But what the hell do I know? I just like seeing all of the options we have in these friendlies and Bradley does a decent job at giving different guys a look.

Anybody know what kind of friendlies there will be leading up to the World Cup? I'd like to get our squad set and have at least 4-6 games under our belt together. Is that rediculous to expect? I feel like there will only be a handful of games before the World Cup and that doesn't seem like enough time to gel and form an identity like we did this summer.

Hopefully Wednesdays game can go a long way in settling some battles, or maybe opening them back up....cough left back cough cough.

Bearzfan, as for upcoming friendlies, the US is supposed to play the Dutch sometime this spring and I'm sure they'll be a few others scheduled after the World Cup draw next month.

The match was rather bland - possibly contributed to by the economical, half-full "Eastern European" designed stadium; "wieneriffic" is an apt description.

I thought the US created some good build-up and/or chances, but nobody stepped up to finish or make the last, crucial pass. I don't know why EJ looked tentative - maybe he wasn't, but it appeared so. Totally agree that Donovan's absence simply magnified his importance to this squad.

I hope El Bob uses this match as a basis to begin crossing-off names on the 2010 list...as the Honorable Elihu Smails professed: "some people just don't belong."

I like Spector in the middle. There's an advantage to having the right sided center back know how to play right back and the left sided center back know how to play left back.

    We really missed Donovan.
