I read something on this but it was a long time ago so feel free to completly ignore the following becasue with my memory it is probably utterly wrong. However, IIRC, a countries soccer federation is required to carry insurance policies on players becasue the players have binding contracts with their clubs that require the club to continue paying wages even if players are injured during international competitions.

Thanks for the first hand report AndyP. For me, that was by far the most impressive crowd support that I have ever seen for a US game. Between the #9 tribute and the non-stop singing even when we were down 2 - nil, it was an awesome display of support for the guys. Inspirational. That being said, the US fans that traveled to Cuba and that sat in the far upper corner of Azteca, deserve badges or something.

One question. How is it and why would Robbie Rogers be able to wear the # 9 jersey in that game?

Its not that he was able too, but more that he had too. The numbers assigned to the players are consecutive from 1-18 (11 on the field and 7 substitutions). So when Robbie Rogers was added to the potential squad he had to take a number that was already used by someone else. You may or may not have noticed that Casey was given Dempsey's #8 for this game.

Add to that, he'd known Davies better and longer than anyone else on the squad, since age 14.

Amazing display of character by those MEN!!! I had to do a silent scream when we scored, since I was in a hotel room in Boston with my 10 yr. old daughter asleep nearby. The crowd reaction looked like the game was in South America or Italy..... It must have been AWESOME to be there...
