We should win this game seeing that Portsmouth is in disemboweling or performing hari kari on themselves at the moment. Paul Hart is a good coach though and may be able to get his guys to put up a good fight.

are you referring to last years match? I'm confused by the "2008-2009 Matches" category. (hint hint Petty)

Yeah it should be a win. Pompey is a mere shadow of what it was 2 seasons ago when they won the FA Cup.

I say we win 2-1 with goals from Gera and Zamora. I know that sounds odd, but I have a feeling this season is going to be good for Gera, and Zamora hopefully worked on his confidence in the friendlies and the early goal in the Europa League.

Also ... it looks like Eddie Johnson is staying with the team this season? Though a late loan wouldn't surprise me and may be good.

well gee maybe no one is excited for the start of the season or maybe we're all confused why there is no "2009-10 Season" category yet, but c'mon people opening day is just over two days away!

Unless they bring people straight in off the plane (a la Sox catcher Doug Mirabelli a few seasons back) Pompey may not even be able to fill the bench.

    2-0 Fulham.

There's probably a stream somewhere, so see all in the chatzone. Or Dawg are you doing a live blog/chat?

Nice try, doggie. I've been trying to get a 2009-2010 category started for a few weeks now, but I've been unsuccessful.

Rumor has it, however, that there's a match preview about to be published on this site. We'll see.

As for the match itself, I'd say don't exptect to see Dempsey playing, not after 90+ in the Azteca today.

Jimmy Carter hates "2009-2010 Matches" categories.

    Maybe that'll help.

    bump,

just to remind people that we have a match in less than two days time, the opening of the 2009-2010 season.

I'm understanding that we don't have live TV coverage but that there's a tape delayed broadcast on Setanta.

For those of you new to the site, the left hand column of the home page usually includes "next match" data along with the crest of the club we're playing.

Who's for the chatroom Saturday morning?

So, judging by the interest in this match, in 24.5 hours I'll be one of two people in the US of A listening to GJ and sitting in the chatroom.

Man, all of you must be either too sunburned to move or too upset by the Mexico match to get involved.

C'mon people: Linups! Predictions! A pulse!

Okay, I've said inthe match preview that I expect a 0-1 victory for FFC. Here's a lineup:

Schwarzer; Paintsil, Hangeland, Hughes, Konchesky; Riise, Etuhu, Murphy, Gera; AJ, Zamora

[No Dempsey or Davies -- knackered and injured]

I'll be watching it delayed on Setanta, so won't be in the chatroom, live.

I predict our usual lineup, except that Zamora may not play (he was injured for the T&T game); I have no idea who Roy will replace him with. The concession to Dempsey will be that he gets subbed out about 60-65 minutes in.

0-2 Fulham (Johnson, and whoever else is starting with him up top)

I see a win. Nothign like getting a W on the road first game on the season. Pompey is as bad off as the Toon, minus the loud tragicomic element that so endeared the Toon to my heart.

I hope they get their act together and stay up. Sue me, I like military towns and would like to see Pompey stay up. But hey, better them than us!

IF ONLY THERE WAS A FORUM FOR 09-10 MATCHES, WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!?!?!

Since Woy relies heavily on my tactical acumen, here is my lineup

    ---------------Schwarzer
    Paintsil -- Hangeland -- Hughes -- PK
    Gera -- Etuhu -- Murphy -- Riise
    --------- Zamora --- AJ

EJ, Nevland, Kelly, Stoor, Zub..., Baird, Seol.

Wow, with Deuce and Dempsey out our midfield just got thin.

2-1 Fulham. The usual suspects in the starting XI except Gera and Riise on the wings. Probably get a Seol sighting. In fact, I'll go with him and Cap'n Danny with the goals. Seol is usually good for an early netting before falling out of favor and disappearing.

I'll be in the chatroom, but this game will be streamed online since it's airing tape delayed. So no GJ for me....I hope.

if y'all get a decent link, be sure to pass it on in the chatroom.

Matt, Orderup is farther away than some places but quicker via freeways. Let's head there after the match. Work for you?

I'm going to guess Roy goes with the regular lineup and then gives Dempsey a rest on Thursday.
