well, toodles then FFC24. dont really know what you were thinking, with the economy the way it is and us being fulham.

sure, under cookie we didnt spend anything but thats because we were recouping from all the crazy spending done the decade before.

but LS spent 25 million (on crap) in one summer, and Roy has spent nearly 40 million on a dozen players (if not more?) since arriving under two years go.

    so we spend money.

oh, and watch stoke city go into debt if not administration in a few years. same with hull. and same with newcastle.

Had my fingers crossed about Vela, and was optimistic about a loan deal because it made alot of sense for all parties involved. The only positive for it not happening was Brede (from the sounds of it) might have been involved in the deal.

Needless to say the return of the captain and Simon is critical.

    Overall, rather underELMing

Give me a break. 40m in 2 seasons averages out to 10m in the last 4 transfer windows. That's really not spending much in today's market.

Furthermore, today's economy is a lame excuse. Like I said, if Mo is struggling for cash then sell the damn club. You can't tell me he can't find somebody who would want a team in Europe that happens to be located in a very bourgeois part of London. I realize that the economy is in the shitter, but then it's the responsibility of the owner to do what's right and not take this club down with him.

Further still, Stoke and the like won't be in admistration for simply spending a bit of cash. I certainly wasn't thinking we might spend like those rich fucks City have, but I was certainly expecting a goddamn proven quality forward. So excuse the fuck out of me for expecting us to do the reasonable thing and try and improve our team going into Europe. This is what teams do when qualifying for Europe, they improve. I'm quite happy with most of our team when healthy, but the Villa game showed we lack depth and the start of the season has shown we lack a goalscoring threat. Apparently it's too much to ask to have the team sign a player or 2 to fix the problems.

I don't have a problem with how much we spent or, barring Elm and Chicago, who we spent it on. We strengthend our midfield considerably, expanded our roster, and DIDN'T HAVE TO SPEND because we:
    1. Kept Hangeland
    2. Kept Dempsey
    3. Brought back Stockdale from on loan
    4. Brought back EJ from on loan
    5. Brought back Andranik from on loan

And here's a couple things about money spent.

    1. Almost all of our transfers in were "undisclosed," so we don't know if the figures cited on SSN are anywhere near accurate.
    2. The "loan" for Greening is actually 4m quid purchase deferred to benefit WBA's tax liability.
    3. The only money we got in was the 2.5m for Andreassen.

Compare this with Pompey who spent a fraction more than we did, but recouped about 3 times as much as they spent in transfers out.

24, I sympathize with your frustration, but that's part and parcel of supporting this club. I know that your "other teams" -- Inter Milan and the Lakers -- don't hesitate to break out their check books in order to win or challenge hard for a championship every year, but we just hit our highest level in history in 7th place, and we're NEVER going to be in the Champions League. Why spend money like we think we are?

We have enough to worry about with our teams poor form as of late. Let's not have some fighting in house on our favorite Fulham related website!

Yes they will. Because when they were not even in the premier league their wage bill was higher than their turnover. And now, despite all the sky money, the immense player additions isn't any sign of prudence.

and further to the furthest point, roy doesnt throw money around and make panic buys. we reportedly went after several strikers he was targeting like (major spelling errors ahead) uche, brozek, aliadiarie, janko, crouch, novak, etc etc) but didn't get any. so instead of buying SOMEONE, like LS did with freaking Shefki Kuqi, he didn't buy anyone.

Because with the right owner, we could be in those lofty positions. I don't settle for 7th as I believe that if you simply settle for what you have, you end up toeing the relegation line as other teams outspend you by millions upon millions of pounds.

Let me be clear though, I was never advocating spending like City. I'm advocating an Inter Milan approach to the transfer window, although on a much smaller scale. Here's what I mean. Inter needed a CB,Forward, and somebody in midfield this summer. What we ended up doing was getting 2 forwards,2 midfield players and a quality CB in Lucio. I question whether we really need Motta, but whatever. Now let's translate this to Fulham situation. We needed a 10-15 goals scored per season forward,a CB for depth and a couple of players in midfield preferrably with a left foot. We added the midfield depth, but completely failed in the biggest weakness, the forward spot. This is a problem given the last 4 games obviously.

IThe basic point is that we need to spend money smartly on positions where we need to add players and we mustn't hesitate if a player like Chamakh becomes available. We don't need to add 10m pound players just to sit the bench, but adding a player like Chamakh or Vela or whatever was needed and we failed. It pisses me off that we use the excuse of being a smaller club to not spend. This needs to change and when it does, we'l see top 7 finishes more often.

Indy, debate is extremely healthy for any group. It'd be kind of boring if people simply agreed on everything. Besides I'm always right so it's also fun. :p

24, I should take responsibility for this one. I had bought $100 in lottery tickets for the recent $325 million mega-millions. I vowed to MO that I would pony up for a quality striker if I had won.

Unfortunately I fell desperately short of the 6 numbers needed to win.

    ...How close we came.

What the fuck is going on around here? First Mo goes off about how shes sooooo surprised and disappointed that the crowd threw things at Azteca to the point that she can no longer follow the game and now your telling us that your support for Fulham is conditional on how much money the club spends. pffff

This club is not for everyone, indeed.

I don't think it's his passion that they are pinging. I think it's more the fact that they disagree with his reasons for considering dropping his support for Fulham.

After last season, I think we should all just put our trust in Roy and hope to get through this early spell of injuries. Let's not push any panic buttons yet. I am looking forward to seeing these new players in action once they've had time to settle in with the team. Do I wish we brought in someone a little more well known? Sure. But I am putting my trust in Roy.

An Inter Milan approach for Fulham? What?

If you're reconsidering your support for Fulham, you're not a Fulham fan. Better be on your way bro. Forza Inter!

Um...didn't we improve from 17th to 7th last season?

And isn't this the exact same argument you started in last year's transfer thread?

    Okay.
