In the back of my mind, I figured we were a long shot. But I did get my hopes up. Career-wise, I don't think it's a good move for him. He'd be a starter here and get European football, neither of which he'll get at Spurs. Ah well.

I agree, BC. Capello already told him that he needed to get more time on the pitch if he wanted to figure in England's WC plans. It makes little sense. I think Harry's sold him a bill of goods.

From what I've been reading Sunderland had to agree to a 12 million fee, and we were being charged that amount.

But Spurs only had to pay 10 million.

    Bungs, anyone?

This is the 445th post in this thread. Other statistics:

    --- players released: 3
    --- players transferred in: 2
    --- players transferred out: 0
--- players brought in on loan: 0
    --- players loaned out: 0

We are MUCH more productive than the Fulham front office!

That guy's had some awful injury issues, no? Only managed 4 league games last year, none at all in 2006-07. Not necessarily the risk we want to be taking if we're concerned about depth.

On the other hand, he's been effective when healthy (11 goals in 35 matches in all competitions for West Ham in 2007-08). He'd be an upgrade over Zamora if/when healthy, but I guess that's the issue. If I were Roy, I'd be careful not to pay too much for him unless I was sure he was healthy.

I have a song for 'arry

Honesty is such a lonely word.
    Everyone is so untrue.
    Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you.

Problem is, there's a word in there that he can't define.

As for Crouch, I hope he gets a good seat in the stands in South Africa this summer. What a maroon.

I'm not disappointed Fulham didnt buy Crouch but I am really pissed Zamora has'nt gone to Hull.

Crouch to me can only be a goal scorer with the right support neither Fulham nor Spurs can give him that support right now but we will see, Harry's a pretty shroud manager and I like him, great player too but not many on here would remember he's days at West Ham?

Zamora on the other hand is not a goal scorer has not proved to me he can score goals on a regular basis I think he's record speaks for that.

Roy needs to buy a Goal scorer and find a support player to bring the best out of Johnson, and I think we could have a great season, lets hope.

He scored 11 league goals in 38 matches last season for Portsmouth and had virtually no support -- he scored almost 30% of their goals for the season (38 ). He didn't exactly light it up, but it's respectable total considering the team, and it still is double our top scorer from last season.

Meanwhile, he scored just 22 goals in 3 years at Liverpool, where we know he had plenty of support.

To me, his production is all about consistent playing time, which he got at Portsmouth and didn't at Liverpool. He would have gotten that at Fulham, and we have good midfielders to deliver him the ball.

It's a major blow that we didn't get him.

So with Crouch headed to Spurs, will Defoe or Bent or Pavlyuchenko be out the door? Not sure how Harry will find playing time for all of them (plus Keane, who presumably is not leaving since he's the captain and leaving didn't work out the first time for him).

Bent to Sunderland. Pavyuchenko, haven't heard anything yet - he'll be tough to sell because the Spuds will want to get their money back they spent on him. Perhaps a loan move?

    That's, umm... good?

With all applicable caveats about how Roy has forgotten more about soccer than I will ever know, I'm a bit concerned at this point. I don't see how the signings we've seen so far have addressed the areas of need (other than depth and versatility) and if Wenger poached Hangeland things would be looking pretty bad.
