Matt, there was a period leading up to Cookie Coleman's firing when, at the same time, our midfielders dropped to injuries and our forwards couldn't score. During this time, Bocanegra and Volzy kept us afloat. Boca scored several goals, and Volzy turned from a very useful right back into a strong aggressive central midfielder. It was he and Boca that kept us up that year, not Sanchez and his one win in 6 or 7 matches.

Add to the fact that Volzy is a good guy and -- can such things be? -- a funny German, and you'll get a hint as to why I like him so much.

He's slowed a bit through injuries of his own, and I'd prefer Paintsil over him at RB and Dickson over him at CM. We were a better side last season with those two in the ineup than we would have been had Volzy been playing at either position. And, Roy doesn't seem to care much for "utility payers" like Volz and Boca, so he was on his way anyhow.

My concern over his leaving is emotional, not rational. I'm convinced that Roy knows what he's doing and that we'll be better at all positions based on his moves out and in.

10 million and some serious wages. Also in that article are hints that Roy is after Franco di Santo of Chelsea (whom I've never heard of), and Jonathan Greening who is the Captain for West Brom.

70,000/week, that is some serious dough. I'm not sure if his abilities warrant those wages, but there is no doubt that he would improve our strking options. Roy's moving us in the right direction and I like some of the options we've been linked to so far. Lets see how it plays out.

Also, did anyone else read the article about Donovan calling out Beckham? Give it a look. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8128463.stm

It's an honest interpretation and I'm glad to see that Donovan isn't mincing words when it comes to the national team and LA.

A couple of comments from the last couple of articles. first, there is no way we should pay 10 Million for Crouch. Hell the roles should be reversed here. 10 for Dempsey and 4 for Crouch. Insane. Also quickly the Beckham piece is funny cause LA and the MLS dug there own hole when signing this guy. Now they gotta deal with it.

I agree Dempsey is being way undervalued, and if you visit the Fulham messageboard way under appreciated. I am getting a little tired with the attitude toward american players. It seems as though his value would be higher or his his worth would be greater if he were english!!! What a crock of shit!!!

It's a fact of life in England. North American and African players are undervalued. Continental players and South American players are overvalued. English players are WAY overvalued.

As for the FFC messageboard, they're a load of mouth-breathing knuckle-draggers. I wouldn't place much stock in anything they say.

There's alwaysa little bit of uncertainty in articles like this, but there is a lot more in rumors started by the likes of the Sun. Soon they'll start a flavor-of-the-day rumor about x other player at x club leaving that is total nonsense. It's what they do.

Rule number 1: Don't EVER listen to anything put on Tribal Football
Rule number 2: The Sun is a shit paper
Rule number 3: English players are always valued more than any other nationality in the premier league. Just the way it is.

As for Clint, he is being undervalued in the article but then please see rule number 2. As for the official board, that should be rule number 4. It's place for kiddies and the adolescent.

    Unofficially my thoughts of course.

Every once in a while I come across a rumor that sounds good, and I am tempted to post it here, until I see it comes from Tribal Football.

Mike is being kind and understated here especially about Rules 1 and 4.

A few years back Wynalda said Donovan needed to decide if he was just a guy who played soccer or a soccer player. With words like that and his gutsy (did I say that  ) performance in the Confed Cup, me hopes he has finally decided that he's the latter.

By the way, English players should be overvalued in an English league that attracks the best players in football. The English fans want and deserve to see their best playing in England. Just my 2 cents worth.

I understand that, Mo. I'm still reeling from the summer break a few years ago when Bent tranferred to Spurs for more money than it took for Barcelona to get Thierry Henry. There have been other examples -- Paintsil being valued at about a 3rd of Zamora is another. I'm not criticizing nearly so much as I'm just remarking upon.

Speaking of undervalued Americans and Africans, I've heard us linked with Benjani. That might be nice. He's another guy who plays with unadorned joy.

Love Benjani, almost as much as Crouch. "Unadorned Joy" - nice description. And I knew you understood it Don. I was just trying to establish the point that English players being overvalued is the way it should be.

CM, sorry i dont agree. Its an english league but a global game. Thats like saying american players should be overvalued in the NBA, simply not true....I dont think im going to follow along with that one. It might be the way it is but not the way it should be.

There is no such thing as "should". The market is what it is. The NBA and Premier League are two totally different markets. Americans still dominate the NBA for starters.

Aren't there rules in UEFA that mandate a certain number of "home grown" players? Perhaps that could be why Englishmen are priced so much higher? I'm reaching, I know.

That said, I think Crouch or Benjani would look fantastic in the White & Black. But those could be just rumors. Sweet, wonderful rumors..
