I caught hell from Terri over on Facebook for criticizing the Braves "fans" that started hurling bottle and cans -- most of which wound up hitting other fans instead of landing on the field -- as a result of a questionable infield fly call. Whoever made the call, did so while the ball was in the air. It was in shallow left field, but it was the SS's ball and he should have made the catch. I don't understand how the call could have resulted inthe game being finished under protest. Right or wrong, if the call is made while the ball is in the air, the call stands. You can protest a judgment call, only a situation in contravention of the rules. Jeez. I learned that in Little League.

I've never been overly fond of Braves fans anyhow -- all those consecutive years of making the post-season and they struggled to sell the place out for the early playoff games, and I'm sick to death of the FSU chop.

    But I digress.

How 'bout them O's????????????????? A very well played game against a dispirited Rangers club. The last two weeks of the Rangers season proves the old adage: it's hard to hit, pitch, or field a baseball with both hands gripped tightly around your neck.

I want the O's and the Giants in the World Series. Who's with me?

It's been 48 years since the two most successful franchises in the history of the game met in the fall classic. I'm rooting for Cardinals-Yankees (since the Angels didn't make it).

And while we're on the subject of playoff experience, especially now that the Rangers are out, yes the Reds should learn from two years ago. But who's the most battle tested of the survivors left? El Birdos!

I like Nev and all, but would rather eat glass than root for the Giants or 40-Whiners. The little guys across the Bay have 16, I repeat SIXTEEN guys making the MLB minimum. Would love to see either the O's or A's from the AL against either the Nats or Reds (sorry Jump).

Giants played very poor today - didn't see the A's but they ran into Verlander so a loss is understandable...not so much for the Giants given Cain started.

And subsequently, the worst loss in Giants playoff history - no offense and the Reds' clutch hitting = bad times for the los Gigantes. Giants need a miracle in the next three games (channeling Culture Club...).

My Rangers have provided some quality drama in losses in recent years, but that thing...pitiful.

egg-ZACTLY! I mean, seriously, how lame is that? Used to really burn my shorts to see empty seats in ATL for the first round during some of STL's lean years between '87 and '96.

NL; St. Louis smack around the Nats for the second time in a row. No Strasburg hurt on the mound, and now in the clubhouse with the players being constantly asked about it.

Give it to the Giants. Beaten twice at home, being held to one hit in Game 3 in the first 9 innings..only to win in extras. Rolled yesterday over Reds, and now Matt Cain gets the ball. Cueto unavailable and Votto trying to play on one leg spells trouble for Cincy.

AL; What a crushing loss for O's. 2 outs from going up 2 games to 1, and the closer just served it up..ouch

What a comeback for the A's. Listened to it on the radio on my to LAX last night. Can they get to Verlander in Game 5? Wouldn't bet against them.

The Reds had it in the bag and completely blew it :angry-banghead:

Currently watching the game on mlb.com Gameday, hoping and praying for a good outcome today, but I'm not very optimistic...

Me too :( Such is the life of a Cincinnati sports fan though. Eternal disappointment. We just learn to live with it lol.

ARoid er ARod failing again and again in the clutch.. Dang, this O's team is resilient.

Congrats to Nev, the Giants are also a very tough minded team. Sorry to the Reds fans, just couldn't get that one base hit, even though they got the tying run up in each of the last four innings.

Old saying in baseball that momentum lasts as long the next day's starting pitcher and Justin Verlander threw a bucket of ice water on the A's. Dude is a bad man.

This is why WAY BACK on the old site I wrote an essay on "Why I'm a Follower, not a Fan". Life's too short to become emotionally invested in any spectator sport. Especially once you've come to expect the worst. After the second game in SF, I'd already watched more Reds innings on TV than I did the entire season... listened to games on radio.. while driving. I hate to see a brilliant team fall on its face and if any Reds team ever approached Big Red Machine status, this was it..

did listen to WLW post-loss analysis, though.. and, little as I've seen and heard, Dusty Baker has to go. He has the strategy down.. not the tactics.
Funny.. think I've heard that before about him....

Yeah everything from the fans that I'm seeing is calling for Baker to be replaced. However, Jocketty has already said he expects Dusty and all the coaches to be back for next season.

I really thought this team could be close to the next Big Red Machine as well. I'm usually very pessimistic about the Reds and Bengals in general, but this series really put a bad taste in my mouth for the Reds. Good thing I have until next April to try and get rid of it...

As a Cardinal fan, I've got that pit in the bottom of my stomach, hoping Waino can come through yet again. As a baseball fan, how can you beat consecutive days of 4 playoff games back to back to back to back, and four game fives? The only dark cloud in the silver lining is Selig's justification for this result. Can't argue with the drama and quality of play, though. We'll see if it continues tonight.

    GO CARDS!

So... how was your gut in the third?
    lol
Congrats! I watched the game from 2nd inning till the 8th.. where I guess I fell asleep. Each time the Cards added a run I felt more and more for the poor Nat's fans. The Cards have a manager! And evidently a good locker room.
Poor Davey.. he deserves a championship... Yeah, I know {looked it up}.. but Mets '86 was a fluke.

Orioles got the heart, but facing Sabathia in a deciding game on the road is tough. They played very well the entire season, but they didn't have the horses -- really didn't all season which makes the final standings amazing. So much for an Orange and Black World Series. Ah, well, I can dream.

As for the other game, the 9th inning told the tale of the entire series. Top of the 9th: Nats with a two run lead and the relievers can't throw the ball over the plate -- except for batting practice pitches. Bottom of the 9th: Cardinals with a 2-run lead and Motte is knocking the corners off the place at 100 MPH. I think the occasion finally got to Washington. They'll be back. And the Cardinals are insane.

Since pitching is everything in a short series -- well, some times -- I'm looking for Detroit and SF in the WS, with Detroit taking it all. The pitching is fairly close, but the Giants don't have anyone to match the Detroit sticks.

Very compelling and dramatic games so far. Looking forward to the rest -- especially with no league football this weekend.

lol...it wasn't good, I assure you. I clung to the fact that a) we had quite a few outs left and, b) this bunch is the epitome of the Jimmy V mantra..."don't give up, don't ever give up." Keep waiting for the balloon to pop, but it never quite does.

And I'll fess up...I hit the hay after Motte gave up the "insurance" run in the bottom of the 8th. A pleasant surprise to wake up to...well, more like "they did NOT just do this again, did they?"

Gonna be an interesting two more weeks of baseball, that's for sure.
