Stockdale and CJ

EJ has some hope as I heard that CJ was ruled offside during his return flight to London.

I'm not sure why that's necessarily the conclusion. EJ has been in England for right about a year now; CJ has almost 100 EPL matches under his belt. If we were to postulate a false dichotomy that only CJ or EJ were considered to be brought back on loan (as opposed to Hammer or Leijer or one of the others), it certainly could be that Roy thinks it's better for EJ's development to stay at Cardiff and get into some matches (it's frustrating that he's not finding the net, certainly, but he's getting some minutes for a club that's good enough to be pushing for promotion to the EPL) than to come back to Fulham and sit, whereas CJ is what he is and if he's not playing anyway then he may as well not play in London.

I agree with the logic. Collins John has at least demonstrated he can score in England - lest we forget he led the club in scoring in 2005-6. Eddie Johnson hasn't scored (for club) since Kansas City...

 

I agree with JMH. My guess is that bringing back CJ instead of EJ means good things for EJ.

I think they brought back CJ because they don't care about him, and he has less chance of getting into a match than I do. I think his main responsibility with Fulham will be to make sure all of the footballs are picked up off the pitch after practice. You see this in baseball sometimes too when they bring up a backup from the minors to warm the bench but let the prospect play in the minors.

 

Just hearing the name Collins John has upset me!:x All that talent, such a shame...

 

This is the right analogy. Though I wouldn't really say that this means anything particularly good for EJ (he needs to start scoring goals soon if he wants to have a future in England), but I don't think it means anything bad for him either.

I assume what you meant to say was "didn't score, but was NOT the striker that was subbed." The match report on Cardiff City's website says "man of the match Eddie Johnson impress[ed] in attack" and mentions that he set up CCFC's third goal and drew the foul that started the scrum in which Andranik picked up his second yellow card. (Eddie also earned a yellow of his own on what the match report describes as a pretty blatant handball in the attacking penalty area.) Take it for what it's worth, but fan voters on Sky also picked Eddie as MotM. The lack of goals remains worrisome, but it sounds like maybe he's starting to find his feet. It'd be nice if he is, anyway.

 

He didn't score, but he did assist on two of the goals (first and third). "Good on ya, Eddie!"
