I say we just sub Nevland in around 10 minutes from now on. This way he still feels at home by coming off the bench, but has more time for more goals.

Good game and much needed 3 points.

    My thoughts on the game.

I would start Nevland, perhaps bringing in Zamora with 20 mins left. Nevland has earned the start, just not sure if he can go 90.

Murphy had a much much better game.

If it hadn't been for Nevland's brace, Dempsey would have been my MOTM. He did very well defensively and gave us much of the creative spark we needed. It said something when Pompey pushed 3 players on him when he made that 2nd half run down the left side.

Pantsil is a man of extremes...I just hope that, by the end of the season, he has saved us more points than he has cost us.

I successfully avoided all forms of media to watch the rebroadcast tonight on FSC -- woo-hoo!!!!! What I noticed on a few random players

Pantsil -- Cursed him up and down for 70 minutes until he made the tackle of the season.

PK -- great game, except for bad giveaway in the 8th or 9th.

Brede -- STUD -- He won a header in the 85th where I thought he looked like Troy Polamalu drilling a wide receiver in the middle.

A Johnson -- Great goal, I'll have more to say on that tomorrow on the blog

Nevland -- Holy great golly almighty! I can only imagine how GJ's man crush grew today.

Zamora -- You know, I like the off the ball runs he does, and the support he gives to AJ, but he had a bad game today and I still hope to see him start next week.

Smiling after a Fulham game beats the hell out of looking down and saying "Aw shit, it's still mighty close there". I say we still need to keep looking up, with one eye on the lower half of the table because, well, old habits are hard to break.

Nevland looked really lacking his first few touches and then the light came on. Fantastic sub in. Bobby Z was terrible. The announcers said he looked low on confidence, perhaps that's what it is.

Beautiful 2pt (at the time) tackle by JP on Crouch but he and Konch's lapses are enough to give ulcers. Hughes went to sleep twice on set pieces (the 2nd being the Nugent goal) but otherwise he and Brede were good.

Thought Etuhu was pretty solid for what he was called on to do. Offensively he was a total liability in the first half, but wasn't as bad in the second. If he could play every 90 like he did the second half, I wouldn't be so opposed to his getting time. All in all though, would rather see him as a defensive sub or in for specific matchups (like the chelsea match earlier).

Murphy had a few more give aways than I'd expect. Thought AJ, Demps and Davies all had a good match.

Good to see some goals, take 3 pts and get back in the top 10. Now if we can just do something about that road form.

We followed the script for this season and produced points at home. Next month will be very telling for this squad.

Thank you John Pantsil for the lovely tackle on the robot.

Davies, Dempsey and Murphy all played well and I particularly enjoyed the attack minded passing from all three.

The difference between Nevland and Zamora today was Nevland's first, seconed and third thought was to head straight toward the goal and shoot at any given opportunity.

Nevland is a cool finisher. Made me remember last year's goals...fondly.

I think the questions regarding Nevland's ability for 90 minutes are valid, however, I'd like to see it actually employed a time or two.

FFC played well, had a bit of good luck and earned 3 points.

It was a great day at the old place,it was really bouncing but I have a question for everybody-where I was sat in H7 the seemed to slowley turn on Zamora, they started singing his name when he was having a nightmare but ever so slowley the fans turned, the name singing stopped and the "you don't know what your doing" started was it just where I was sat or do you think that the crowds have turned on him at last?
Also what do you think of the new Bullard song? fantastic!!!!!

Woke up at 0600 this morning and thought to myself: "Why don't I go out to the living room and watch the match on DVR?" I'd listened to it "live" with GJ and the chatroom, but it was fun to watch. Some observations:

    1. Although I may be the only one to see it this way, I didn't think the first Paintsil incident was a penalty. I think the Pompey player had lost the ball and was hoping that the ref would bail him out, the way point guards often do in the NBA. Having said that, I've seen penalties called on plays like that.

    2. How many times are we going to watch Konchesky lollygag himself into a potentially costly giveaway? If it weren't for the fact that the Pompey "attack" was toothless, we'd have been a goal down after 6. He does this 2 or 3 times almost every match. Paintsil gets crap when he does it about every 4th match, but PK ... grammle frizzit flabben zorbal! And, instead of going after N'zogbia, we're gonna let him go to Wigan? mortzah grimmlestatt reezamazza.

    3. Etuhu played a solid NINETY minutes yesterday. His defensive support was sterling, his positioning was fine, he won several balls, and EVERY pass I saw him make was completed to a teammate. His solidity at the base of the back four mean that Murphy and Davies had the freedom necessary to produce their best matches in a while. I have no problem criticizing the guy when he has a stinker, but what's he going to have to do for anybody to give him some credit for a performance like yesterdays?

    4. I'd start Nevland. To quote the "Kinky Friedman for Governor" official campaign slogan: Why the hell not? We need to play Wigan on the deck, so let Erik and AJ run Titus Bramble in circles for 60 minutes, and thing bring on a fresh Zamora to punish them. We're not going to get anything off Wigan by playing "big" up front and hitting the long ball.

    5. Dempsey was fekking sublime. In attack, in linking, and in tackling back, I am more impressed with the guy in every match.

    6. Tony Adams fielded Sean Davis and TEN DONKEYS. I appreciate he has had injuries and defections, but Kanu is 114 years old, and he played midweek. Whatever made Adams think that he could have only his second start of the season just 3 days lafter his first? Pompey's defense reminds me of those chinese terra cotta horses: big, impressive, immobile. Their strikers were pretty much bereft of ideas, and so we were able to put Paintsil, Etuhu, and Nevland on Crouch most of the day. If Pompey really do transfer Davis, they're in the CCC next year.

    7. With the exception of the Yank in the Midlands and the Yank on Merseyside, we have the best GK in the Prem. He didn't have a lot to do yesterday, but he owns that penalty area.

And damn "Ted" Nugent for ruining my 3-0 prediction on timmyg's podcast! :x

Good post Mr Don-fully agree with the "Etuhu maybe not a muppet" statement-thought he played well.
Agree with -Pantsil not a penlty as well-but I've seen them given many many times
Davis was very good for them yesterday, but so was their No3, his header nearly broke the crossbar(you could hear it) and he chased everything,Penent seemed to be a dog chasing his tail though lol
Nevland was massive, second goal was stunning(first one was just bloody good lol)

just a little side note,as I was walking back to the tube after the game I could hear a Pompy fan on his phone to a mate "I can't belive we lost three-one to little Fulham who the hell does that?"-made me smile-is'nt it funny everybody has a really bad game when thay play us??? funny that lol

Don I don't think I would go as far as saying Etuhu had a solid 90 but it was his best showing for Fulham. I thought he was a bit invisible in the first half but played very well in the second half. It is the first time I have seen him throw his body around and he made several very nice tackles. Terri and I watched the match together and I found myself praising his second half performance.

Regarding Nugent's penalty claim against Paintsil, I'm not sure why nobody else has mentioned the fact that Nugent controlled the ball with his arm first.

I thought, once again, our defense matched up well and both Hangeland and Hughes had great games...these two are working absolutely great together. As for tackle of the match, how about Pantsil when he blocked Crouch from a point blank shot. Great stuff. though Konch was a bit dodgy though.

Dempsey had another solid performance but our best midfielder on the day was Danny.

As for Nevland...WOW, Super Sub. Just a cool finisher.

Nevland probably won't start cause he's not a target man. If he does, I bet it's AJ who comes off. My guess is AJ and Zamora keep their spots, and Nevland comes off the bench again.

Ports is in deep deep trouble. They will need the 6 week bump due to a new manager to keep them up... I just wonder how long they are willing to wait before making the change.

Things looked much better in the midfield, but Davies and Demps were pinching in a lot - which worked to clog up the center of the pitch and provide opportunities for the outside backs to get forward.

Ports did attack the space left due to this tactic, but luckily they are not very good and the few times they exploited it the 3 defenders left were able to stand up to the test.

This 3 points may seal the Prem in 09/10 for the Whites.

Thought this was interesting. After Saturday's win, Fulham have the third-best home record in the Premiership:

    Team W D L GD PTS
    1. Manchester United 10-1-0 21 31
    2. Liverpool 7-5-0 12 26
    3. FULHAM 7-3-1 10 24
    4. Arsenal 7-3-2 7 24
    5. Chelsea 6-4-2 14 22

Impressive. Of course their away record (3rd bottom) is impressive too...
