I have boarded the "Gera is rubbish" train myself Colin. I'm not sure if it is the expectations for more, all the missed scoring opportunities, the fact that Roy moved him outside the starting 11, or that he just doesn't look 'right' much of the time. I read your last entry regarding the passing stats 'with' and 'without Bullard'......so I am going to step 'off' the train for a brief time and watch him a little closer to see if I am being unfair.

I know he's been a disappointment so far, but he has been very good in the past, and there's no reason why we shouldn't believe he's incapable of being a good player again. The numbers I came up with were from a very small sample, but I have to wonder if he and Bullard were just too similar to be the lineup at the same time. We saw that a bit last season with Murphy and Davis, before Murphy started taking a more defensive role.

On a tangent, I wouldn't mind having Steve Davis back now.

After listening to the match on the "radio" in the morning, I decided to watch Andreassen, Gera, and Stoor very closely on the TV replay that afternoon. As for Gera looking like "Jimmy on a bad day," I can't go there. He seemed to lose all clue of what to do when he received the ball, when not giving it directly to a defender, he passed to nowhere -- and that's not Yank for "passing into space." I mean he hit it sideways where people werent. Of greatest concern to me were the passes that ran out of gas well before they got to their intended target. This shows tentativeness [if that's a word] resulting from lack of confidence. If you're going to play an attacking midfield position you need to be aggressive. I don't mind the occasional pass that misses because the recepient isn't Ben Bolt, but putting nothing into your passes just invites the several interceptions that did result on the day.

Etuhu, on the other hand, didn't seem to lack in confidence as much as he just looked like he didn't know how to play the game at times. I liked what I saw of him before -- didn't see the West Ham match -- and thought that might have been an abberation. I'm hoping Andranik is getting ready to go, and that we might give Gray another shot.
