Its "Bowl Season" for college football (american-style). Even people who don't follow the sport that much will tune in to see how their alma mater or school of interest will fare in a bowl game. While the BCS should delete the middle letter for a true abbreviation, the game itself is tremendous. There are few things comparable on this side of the pond to a Saturday afternoon and being in a stadium for a big college game.

    I've crossed-referenced the 'Better to Know a Fulham Fan' thread and have listed a few of the games that might be of interest to the posters. Note that unless its unavoidable that the Corporate names are left out (No Poulin's Weedeater Bowl references here). Feel free to talk smack or bring up a game or team that fell through the cracks;

12/20 Las Vegas Bowl; BYU v Arizona. Omsdogg loves BYU and my Wildcats haven't been to a bowl game in 10 years. Your boys are going down Oms!!

12/23 Poinsetta Bowl; Boise State v TCU. General125 has a Horned Frog avatar and should be tuning in to what should be a very good game between two great programs.

12/28 Independence Bowl; Northern Illinois v La Tech. Bearzfan aka Belle went to NIU so hopefully his Huskies get a win

12/29 Papajohns.com Bowl; Rutgers v NC State; Optimizer went to Rutgers and his Scarlet Knights should continue their winning streak.

12/30 Humantarian Bowl; Maryland v Nevada; If you've never seen a game played in Boise do not adjust the TV set. The turf is "Bronco Blue" and is bizarre to look at for the first quarter or two. HD is a Terp and will surely give you 3 words regarding this one (won't steal your thunder Don).

12/30 Holiday Bowl; Oregon v Oklahoma St; Only listing this because my brother (a UO season ticket holder) will be coming down and we'll be going to the game together. Should be a high scoring game and I'm hoping the Ducks finish with more points.

12/30 Texas Bowl; Western Michigan v Rice; ClevelandMo's school (Rice) is making a rare bowl appearance so what else can be said except "Let's go Owls"

12/31 Music City Bowl; Boston College v Vanderbilt; BostonCottager and his Eagles will look to win what is essentially a home game for Vandy.

12/31 Peach Bowl; LSU v Georgia Tech; I'm sure Lyle isn't happy about his Tigers playing in a "lesser" game, but LSU better be ready to play Tech.

01/01 Citrus Bowl; Georgia v Michigan State; Whitesbhoy is pulling for the Dawgs and Terry1lj will go w/the Spartans

01/01 Outback Bowl; Iowa v South Carolina; LaxAttack is an Iowa alumnus and few things are better than making Steve Spurrier (coach at SC) whine on the sidelines.

01/01 Rose Bowl; Penn State v USC; I know we have fans of both schools (I think Fernando72 went to Penn State but goes to the USC games). PSU will have a chance against a team that really is bummed out they're not playing Texas in the Fiesta Bowl.

01/05 Fiesta Bowl; Ohio State v Texas; For all the Buckeye fans here the "We really don't want to be here syndrome" that befalls college teams that feel hosed comes into play and the Longhorns don't play well.

01/06 GMAC Bowl; Ball State v Tulsa; Sorry to ToM's team about the crazy way their undefeated season ended, but hopefully the Cardinals 'chirp, chirp' and finish the season right.

**Didn't list the title game (deserves it own thread, later). However, I do have to share that from time I was the age of 10 until his passing 6 years ago I had friendly wagers (usually for quarters) with my grandfather on every bowl, every year. My job was to handicap each game so schools and nicknames have been engrained in my brain permanently.

Sadly, my Ags aren't in the mix so my bowl interest is highly diminished aside from pulling for my old man's Turtles, the New Year's Day games, and the title game. Oh, and rooting against t.u. Go Nuts!!

    FEAR THE TURTLE*

*unless you're Virginia, VA Tech, FSU, BC, or Middle Tennessee [?]

The Terps were 3-1 against ranked opponents.

Meanwhile, over in The Crescent City, my OTHER Alma Mater -- Troy -- plays in the NAWLINS Bowl on 12/21! Finally, some Trojans that SCJ can root for!

Thanks for the wrapup SCJ. I'm pumped for OSU to go against t.u. (deferential nod to Ag) because the games they played in their home-and-home series were both fantastic. The first year at OSU was a tremendous game, even though t.u. won I still look back on the whole night with good memories, and the next year, Troy Smith (Cleveland born and bred) ran wild over them in Austin. Great times.

Don, I didn't know you were a Terp.

Rice in a bowl? Outside of a Chinese restaurant? The world has gone crazy.

Oh, by the way, what bowl is That School Up North in this year?    Thanks Rodriguez, you make this Buckeye fan verrrrrrrry amused.

12/21 New Orleans Bowl - Troy Vs Southern Miss. Troy opened as an early 3 pt favorite. It's has since climbed to 4.5. Troy is exactly where Soutehern Miss was 5-10 years ago. They have a lot of heart and will play hard for 60 mins. Hopefully, they can maintain that streak, because Southern Miss did not. Southern Miss comes in winning their last 4 games to become bowl eligible under 1st year coach Larry Fedora. the offense has been streaky and the defense was horrible the first 7 games of the season. I like their streak and I'm making the trip home for the game. So, GO EAGLES. I'll take the Eagles +4.

Side note, areas of Mississippi got 12 inches of snow yesterday. First time on the books that Mississippi has recorded snow on Dec 11th.

The Cards are still chirping. Just a shame we couldn't finish out the 'Cinderella season' the way we intended.

Tune in June 6th to see the Cards take on Tulsa.

dtwon, wanna put a quarter on the game? I keep thinking you're from Denver as opposed to being exiled there, or I'd have brought that up early. SoMiss's coach should be managing Luton!

I'll be pulling for my Northwestern Wildcats in the Alamo Bowl this year against Mizzou. It's a pretty big bowl for us and hopefully Fitz will guide the team to a bowl win a long time coming (1949 was the last one I believe).
I haven't seen any of the lines but I would expect Missouri to be a big favorite against us. I would guess that NU will have a hard time containing Daniel, Maclin, and Kauffman but from the games that I've seen Missouri doesn't really like to play defense. Should be an entertaining matchup at the very least, with two spread offenses slinging the ball all over the field.
Also, definite let down season for Mizzou this year, will they come out to play? I know that Northwestern will be very pumped up...

SamStej, how Missou plays depends on how they view the bowl. Several years ago K-State thought they should have gotten the Cotton Bowl and pouted and bitched all their way down. They then got their clocks severely cleaned in the Alamo Bowl to the absolute pure joy of all the neutral fans in attendance.

I always root for Northwestern. Hope they do well. Come down. Spend money!

I would love to, unfortunately im operating on a college student's budget...
I definitely agree that the game should hinge on the attitude Mizzou brings to the game. I'm guessing that despite thier dissapointing year they'll come ready, I'm thinking that Daniel's last game will serve as good motivation...

SamStej after spending my high school years in the Chicago suburbs it's hard not to have a soft spot for Northwestern (unless you're U of Illinois fan). Tbh I haven't seen much of your team this year, but my guess is they'll be able to put up points on the horrible defense of Mizzou. Add to that a fast track in the Dome and it should be a fun game to watch.

HEY, those KSU fans had just seen their team lose a double digit lead, then proceed to lose in 2 overtimes in the big 12 title game to the Aggies, costing us a chance a national championship.

It wasn't the Cotton Bowl, it was the title game/ bcs game that we got screwed out of.

We have every right to bitch and moan. The "kstate" rule was invented after that mess and has ironically helped the teams Kstate hates most to get into BCS bowls.

Don't you call out K-state, we've gone through enough losing over the last century to last 50 lifetimes.

And this was our chance to go from Futility U to National Champions. It was so heartbreaking.

    WHOOP!

Yeah, sux it had to come against KSt instead of the usual B12 powers since we have a lot more in common with you than the Corns, Paperclips, & t.u.s of the world.

Don, how about a beer for next July when I make it down to SA? It's too bad Fedora actually wears a visor. I say embrace your roots and design your own!

I attended the Northwestern/Ohio St game a few years back in Chicago and Nwestern beat Ohio St. I was in the Ohio St section (sister-in-law from Defiance, OH). However, my wife and I were excited when Nwestern pulled it out. It was great actually.

It's good to know that there are some other Northwestern fans out there SCJ, especially at Ohio State games. They definitely have the majority of fans in the stadium seemingly every year we play them in Evanston...
Hopefully a possible win in the Alamo Bowl, will get a couple more NU fans in the seats and possibly help out with recruiting a little bit. It would be nice to see some sustained success, but with a majority of the offense graduating this year it would guess it will be a struggle.

I'm just happy that Rutgers got to A bowl this year.

I'm not going to be able to go to Birmingham, so I decided to buy a ticket and donate it to a local fan who wants to go to the game and support Rutgers. This is done through the Rutgers Scarlet Knights website and it's a good donation of $40. I'm giving someone the gift of Rutgers Football!

Why make someone suffer like that? Why don't you just kick them in the nuts and be done with it?

I couldn't remember if Fulhamburger was a K-State or KU person, good thing I didn't put the Jayhawks as the team he'd be rooting for

Very cool Op on the donation...now Steve that was your father's Rutgers that was a kick in the nuts. The young coach they got has done a helluva job building that thing from scratch.

The first day is done, and after waiting TEN YEARS just to go to a bowl game...Arizona wins 31-21!!! Sorry Omsdogg the BYU kicker didn't help you guys, but we'll take it!! Feel proud for the seniors who went down to Tucson to rebuild a program that was very good in the 90's and hit rock bottom in '02. The Whites win at the beginning of the day, the Cats at the end, and drank beer and made tamales all day in between...cue the dancing banana!!
