I guess I'm not surprised by the poll results, but I thought it would be a little less 'obvious'.

Bumpy & co are proved right, now I'll head on over to the offal to see them crow.

I will always be a supporter of Fulham now that McBride has led me to them. They are just the kind of organization I can get behind. The entire team could be from the island of Lezbos and I would still get antsy and nervous before each match.

I voted in the poll. If folks want to leave because the Americans are gone, then let them go. They're faddish anyhow, and they're not under contract. I'm sticking around.

Oh, and "the team from the island of Lesbos" didn't stop me in my tracks nearly as much as "read up, judah ben hur" did. However, synergystically ... "She decided not to play for the Lesbian team. Would you have made the same decision had judah ben hur?"

The poll pissed me off to tell the truth. With people that change their allegiances at whim there's no wonder why the eurosnobs bash us Americans (well thats part of the reason). When I decided to follow Fulham i was transformed into a life-long supporter. IF i had any doubts about not choosing a big 4 club they were quickly removed (thanks mostly to this site ). I'm Fulham till I die.

I saw the poll earlier today and I was not overly surprised by the poll results. I think I'll stick around for a bit longer myself. Who knows this whole Fulham thing might just grow on me.

    FTID.

I'm surprised by the percentage breakdown too.

And, the "judah ben hur" reference is play on a simpsons episode (and a poor one at that) and I hope that nobody was offended.

When has it ever been faddish to root for American soccer players?

I'm still a Fulham fan because I like the type of club they are, I love Woy, the club and fans appreciated Brian McBride, and the club gave several Americans a chance (even if it was only because they are cheap). Unless there are some massive changes at FFC, they will always be my team in the EPL. However, I would be lying if I didnt admit that following them was more special when they had five Americans vs only one. Not only did I have a vested interest in each game because it was Fulham, but also because I want our American players to do well.

I may like them more now than ever. I miss McBride and Boca, but I also miss Rosenior and some of the other lads from a few years back. And the Club has a buzz about it now.

I'm not surprised about the results. To be honest, I don't know how those people live not having any real allegiance to a team. How can you support Manchester United AND Fulham . . how can you support Reading, Fulham, and Villa simultaneously? I don't think some of these people know the meaning of support.

Furthermore, I hate everyone that comments on Ives's blog. They make me sick . . they are soccer fans but some of them are so amazingly ignorant and even stupid, that I really feel like strangling someone when I read through those comments.

Yeah, the misinformation being spread was pretty ridiculous...I wanted to respond to it all, but there's not enough time in the day...

Admission: I don't hate Man United. They brought me back into the sport, and I can't hate Giggs and Scholes. Don't get me wrong, I hope Fulham beats them 5-0, but they are not really the Evil Empire to me.

sublicon. There isn't just ONE definition of "support." In the technical sense, it implies which team(s) you support financially (i.e., tickets, jerseys, etc.). So, in the financial sense, I support BOTH Reading and Fulham as I own jerseys, posters, etc. from both teams. I have no personal tie to either SW6 or Berkshire; my "home" team is the non-league Aylesbury United FC (or Crystal Palace Baltimore if we're talking where I live now).

To be frank, the fact that I follow Fulham more closely on the weekend than Reading has more to do with the people on this website than a strong preference for one over the other (though the Prem vs. CCC is a factor this year). I have a lot of respect for both Reading and Fulham's club organizations, for their managers (who I think are the two best English managers in football), and for how their teams play. I support both, and don't see any more conflict than in the fact that I support both the USMNT and the England Senior Squad.

Oh, and yes, I'll still follow Fulham with no Americans on the team, at least as long as Woy is there. With no Americans and a Lawrie Sanchez style of football, I suspect that my support might lapse. Heck, as a kid, I was a fan of Notts Forest (they were big in the 70s); I still track them with interest, but don't build my weekend plans around them like I currently do with Fulham games.

Frankly speaking, Fulham can't afford to "alienate" those supporters who don't sign the secret exclusivity contract. They need all the emotional and financial support they can get and, from my experience, welcome it all with a spirit of inclusive comraderie.

I found this site because I google'd Brian McBride. I started following Fulham when he was joined by Bocanegra. But there's something about this club.

Remember when LBNo11 posted and asked if we'd abandon the club if the Americans left? Remember our responses? After a spirited rebuttal by Spencer, I asked the mods to give him the title "defender of the faithful." The reason LBNo11 raised the question, however, was because of the almost immediate disappearance from the Official Blog of a host of Japanese FTID's who abandoned the club when Nakamura left the club.

Like a lot of us, the Americans brought me here, but the club has kept me here. I was shattered when Liam was transferred, and as sorry as I was to see Brian and Boca and KK leave this summer, I'll be much more devastated if Volzy leaves for Ipswich as is the current rumor.

Mo, when I said "faddish," I wasn't deriding folks who root for Americans overseas. I still spend a lot of time over the weekend checking out scores from Herrenveen, Hannover, Monaco, Rennes, Rangers, and even Amenia Biefield! But, even given my handle and my occasional threads about Luton Town, FFC is not a fad for me.
