Hmmm....I suppose if Stuttgart were to lose Mario, I wish he would go to Fulham and not anywhere else.

The only reason I buy this rumour is because of the detail in it. If this was one of those "Fulham bid 15M for Gomez" things with nothing else in the rumour, I would not believe it one bit.

Also didn't Barra say something a couple of months ago about us going after a forward that costs alot and would be considered a future star? This could be the guy.

It will be interesting to see if Gomez features in Stuttgart's friendly vs Arsenal. Kickoff is in about 20 minutes.

edit: He is starting, but the Arsenal TV commentators have mentioned him possibly signing with us.

I didn't mean to imply, by saying that Gomez was a big disappointment at the Euro, that I therefore wouldn't want him on my team. Was just trying to make sure I was thinking of the right guy. He'd been great for Germany before that (6 goals in 14 appearances counting the Euro) and awesome for Stuttgart the last two seasons (33 league goals, 44 total), and was German Footballer of the Year in 2007. He'd be an incredible pickup.

Wow - would be an awesome signing... 28 goals in 32 appearances? A bargain at 15M...

He is in Stuttgart's starting XI vs. Arsenal...

well, if we did get him, DC Heather would be hanging around a lot more. She's been following Stuttgart pretty closely for the past few years.

Gomez subbed off around 60 minutes. Came close twice in the second half, including a very nice header just over the bar in which he out-jumped two Arsenal defenders.

Gomez would be a sweet signing - not sure why he'd go to Fulham, though....here's hoping....

(Not sure that guarantees a top 7 finish - let's not get too giddy.)

Any thoughts on Stoor? I don't remember much about his Euro performances (not exactly Lahm or Sergio Ramos, eh?)...

Where is the enthusiam regarding the official announcement of the Stoor signing?

Are we all getting 'gaga' over a possible signing of Gomez so much so that is is just a whatever deal that Stoor has FINALLY signed?

RidgeRider, I think most of us just don't know a whole heck of a lot about Stoor so it's hard to find too much to say about it. Whether or not Volzy is on his way out, I guess it puts to rest any more rumors about Finnan or Stalteri returning.

There has been a significant amount of productivity lost to my relentless pressing of the F5 key.

Fair enough JMH....unfortuneatley I know even less.

You'll note most of my posts have zero player analysis and most include links to news as my way of contributing to the threads or they are just plain old questions, since I have nothing else to offer regarding player qualities.

I rely heavily on the rest of you to learn about these guys. :)

Very excited about all the activity this team has undertaken to avoid what happened last year! I'm thinking we will have a team this year that will win a few games and play some 'fun to watch' matches. It's exciting.

There is zero chance I've heard of sporting life and even less of a possibility that I've read this publication before. Regardless, apparently, 12 hours ago Gomez pledged his allegiance to Stuttgart whilst saying something to the affect of "honoring his contract."

I think I've heard that hackneyed phrase before...

If true, I am genuinely excited and welcome him to the side. Although not much of a presence at the Euro's, he is a world-class talent and can only help our chances of a better attack (and subsequently helping our miserable GD from last season).

He didn't really pledge anything here, I don't think.

"And some people have asked me to state my loyalty to Stuttgart. That is not necessary though as not once did I say I wanted to leave the club this summer."

Nor has he said, beforehand or now, that he does not want to leave or will not be leaving.

"I have a contract with Stuttgart."

True. Fredrik Stoor had a contract with Rosenborg up until earlier today, too.

"I am honoured by the interest from some leading European clubs but, as I said months ago, if I move, everything has to be right."

Again, he's not saying he won't move, he's saying he'll move but only if it's the right move.

"I am sure that time will come but there is nothing more to say in that respect."

He has not yet been offered the right move but is confident that he will be at some point.

This is some politician-quality mealymouthing here. I understand the situation he's in - if someone came in and offered a 25 million pound transfer fee and 100,000 pounds/week, he'd be a fool not to take it, so if he says "I will not leave Stuttgart this summer" without any qualification then he's potentially a liar. But at the same time, the things he's said don't really amount to much, I don't think.

To be honest I'd be shocked if we bought him after we got AJ. Besides, AJ and Zamora + the new midfielders should be enough for a comfy midtable finish.

Let's bear in mind that we haven't "got AJ" yet. As was said upthread, at this point we're exactly as far with AJ as we were with Marlon King.

Also, Sublicon, I think it's usually spelled "Haterade".
